THOUGHT FOR THE DAY. Today was BBQ day at work. Its events such as this that bring so much value to your team and builds #morale in those involved. Now, let me start by saying, I don’t claim to be a chef but I do take pride in my work and made sure everything was cooked properly. Today was a day to show recognition for my staff and to enjoy time together and build those relationships that help bring us together as a team. The actions of being a #serventleader represents my willingness to focus on the #growth and #wellbeing of my team. By being in a position to show my #gratitude to my team and sitting with them while we eat I felt we were a team and I donor hold seniority over anyone. The impact this event had on the atmosphere was amazing. To have a group of people sharing stories, sharing laughter and simply getting to know their pears brings so much to the team, the branch and the organization. Social events such as these are honestly #lowcost and #highreward events. It shouldn’t be done every day because they may lose their luster but on occasion they are a wonderful thing to hold. Don’t overlook the opportunity for team work and learning opportunities while you prepare for and wrap up the event. I saw a group of people become energized, improve communication and engage in conversations that egnited curiosity and interest. I look forward to the next time we can hold another bbq and share more memories and stories and help bring all of the team together. What has been your experiences with these kinds of events and what would you suggest to kick it up a notch and really bring the best out of everyone? I look forward to your contributions in the comments below. If you enjoy my #thoughtfortheday posts be sure to follow me, contribute to the conversation and share to your feed to expand our reach and grow our networks. #thanksfortheread.

You could be forgiven for thinking that not a weekend goes by without me spending time in my kitchen baking. Although there may be more than a grain of truth in this, my project on this occasion was less about Protective Interruptions and more about celebrating a team member’s birthday. Whilst it would have been a lot quicker and easier just to buy something from a shop, it wouldn’t have conveyed the same level of thought or effort. Investing time in gestures like this forms an important aspect of how I try to nurture relationships with my team and enhance our collective level of well-being. After whatever challenges and unexpected situations land at our feet tomorrow, we can at least sit together and enjoy some tea and cake. #wellbeingatwork #emotionalwellbeing #team #relationships

Thanksgiving, is not a global holiday nor is it a popular celebration in every American household... However, if we were to unpack the celebration, and dissect the purpose & value of reflection and giving thanks, there's a few lessons that apply beyond this annual celebration. Turkey Day Take aways that can be applied to our jobs, workplaces, and even the employee experience. 1. Who do you save a seat for at the table? - Are you intentionally creating space & opportunities for those that would otherwise might not get a chance... 2. What are you contributing to the celebration? - Beyond the great wine & tasty food, personally, I always come prepared with stories to share & memories to reminisce on. Similarly, bringing your full self FIRST is a great opportunity to model what vulnerability in the workplace and on your team could & should be like. 3. How are you navigating the "hard" or (un)comfortable conversations? - Not everyone will have the same opinion, however, there MUST be group agreements to create safe spaces for ALL to show up authentically & feel free to SPEAK UP! You don't want a table filled with all the same opinions nor do you want a monoculture that does not encourage nor celebrate individuality & diversity of thoughts and culture. Do you have any lessons learned at Thanksgiving that are parallel to organizational culture & behavior? #vulnerable #leadership #safespace #speakup #culture #purpose #belonging #dei #organizationalculture #organizationalbehavior

When I host a gathering, whether personal or professional, I’m intentional about creating a moment of surprise and delight. If it’s for afternoon tea, I break out the tea cakes, platters and fine china. If it’s a dinner party, I create a feast for their eyes the moment they walk in, with fizzing glasses of Champagne and something tasty to nibble on. And when I host an Imperia workshop, every seat has a goodie bag, because who doesn’t love a goodie bag? Surprise. Delight. Care. Those are the things I like to communicate from the first step inside the door. What are your signature communications to guests and team members? #tuesdaytea #founders #teamwork #communicationskills
