Ministerial Meeting on Urbanization and Climate Change session Kenya has strategically put measures in place for sustainable cities with focus on inclusivity, safety and resilience with practical contributions to COP28. Brazil and Kenya have built local resilience for the urban poor due to technical support from the UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) as a result of the UN Climate Action Summit of 2019. #cop28 #cop28uae #pathwaytocop28

ED UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme)- I appreciate more than 60 ministers and 100 mayors in the room where we anchored multi-level action. Only 2/3 of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) have urban content, less than 20 NDCs have clearly defined and costed urban climate investment while 50% of world’s population lives in urban areas. Climate change affects communities differently thus finance need to reach local leaders directly to shape a resilient, just, sustainable future for all. #cop28 #cop28uae #pathwaytocop28

As we approach #COP29, he emphasized the urgent need for action. The time for pledges has passed—real results are needed now. The Prime Minister called for the delivery of the $100 billion previously pledged to support climate action, stressing that this funding must be both available and accessible to developing nations, particularly Small Island Developing States like #Grenada, which are often on the frontlines of the climate crisis. Concrete outcomes must be prioritized to support those most affected by climate change. Our future depends on it. #ConcordiaSummit #ClimateAction #RenewableEnergy #SIDS #COP29

🌍 Climate Warriors: Unveiling Strategies to Combat Climate Change in Afghanistan 🌱 In my recent post on climate change in Afghanistan, I highlighted the country's unique challenges, risks, and vulnerabilities in the face of this global crisis. I also discussed the imperative for climate action in Afghanistan and outlined potential pathways forward. Today, let's delve deeper into actionable strategies for tackling climate change in Afghanistan, taking into account its economic and geographical landscape. 1. Sustainable Land Management: Afghanistan's diverse ecosystems are under threat from climate change impacts such as desertification, land degradation, and loss of biodiversity. Implementing sustainable land management practices, including reforestation, soil conservation, and watershed management, is essential for preserving natural resources and enhancing ecosystem resilience. 2. Renewable Energy: Transitioning towards renewable energy sources holds immense promise for Afghanistan. With abundant solar and wind resources, investing in clean energy infrastructure can curb greenhouse gas emissions and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Embracing renewables not only aligns with climate goals but also fosters energy security and economic growth. 3. Community Empowerment: Education and awareness are pivotal in building climate resilience at the grassroots level. Empowering local communities with knowledge and skills to adapt to climate change impacts is crucial. By fostering a culture of environmental stewardship and equipping communities with adaptive strategies, we can enhance resilience and safeguard livelihoods. 4. International Collaboration: Addressing climate change requires a collective effort. Afghanistan can benefit from international cooperation and partnerships to mobilize resources and expertise for climate initiatives. Collaborative ventures can facilitate technology transfer, capacity-building, and resource mobilization, accelerating progress toward climate resilience and sustainability. In conclusion, combating climate change in Afghanistan demands a holistic and collaborative approach. By prioritizing sustainable land management, embracing renewable energy solutions, empowering communities, and fostering international cooperation, Afghanistan can navigate the challenges of climate change and pave the way for a sustainable future. 🌿💪 #climateresilience #climatemitigation #climatechange #climateaction #afghanistan #sustainabledevelopment #sdgs2030 #cop29 UN Environment Programme Climate Innovation Challenge

1moThe delay in mitigation has left us with no action but to become climate resilience! Just like, Covid 19 resilience till vaccine was developed!
