The United States and #Uzbekistan will expand their collaboration on critical minerals. On Monday, U.S. Ambassador to Uzbekistan Jonathan Henick and Uzbek First Deputy Minister of Geology Omonullo Nasritdinxodjaev signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Tashkent. Under the MoU, the two nations will intensify cooperation in the critical minerals sector to catalyze investment into Uzbekistan’s industry, setting it up to become a potential major supplier. #rawmaterials #criticalminerals #centralasia #supplychains

Germany and Mongolia want to enter into a strategic partnership and cooperate more closely in raw materials, mining, and renewable energies. The signing of a corresponding agreement is planned for Wednesday during the visit of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to the Mongolian capital, Ulaanbaatar. Germany wants to reduce one-sided economic dependencies, particularly on Russia and China. At the same time, Mongolia, as a landlocked country between the two major raw material powers, seeks new political and economic relations. "Monrovia – Just days after the U.S. firm, High Power Exploration Inc (HPX), founded by mining billionaire Robert Friedland, signed a letter of intent with President Joseph Boakai’s ruling Unity Party government, and the Guma Africa Group to develop rail and road projects linking it with Guinea, the mining company’s stalled operations in Guinea is raising eyebrows about its desire to put up a corridor and heavy duty railroad connecting the Nimba district of Guinea to a new Liberian deep water port. The signing trumpeted as the first major power move for the new administration did not give timelines for the start of the project, prompting some sceptics to question whether HPX ideal plan is to flip to another company once a deal is finalized with Liberia. HPX and Guma Africa entered into negotiations with Liberia’s government to agree on a framework granting exclusive rights to develop, finance and grant operating rights to the Liberty Corridor. The infrastructure projects, known as the Liberty Corridor, are expected to support the West African region’s connection to world markets and are estimated to cost between $3 billion to $5 billion, HPX said in a statement. However, a recent report by Africa Intelligence suggests that HPX is finding it difficult to get its foot above water and is experiencing resentment from the Guinea junta. The report states that more than four years after the acquisition of the iron ore deposit, the US-Canadian billionaire is facing disinterest of the Junta in this asset, whose exploration remains subject to approval by UNESCO. Kazakhstan is one of the places where geopolitical rivalries around #criticalminerals are playing out. The resource rich country produces #nickel, #lithium, #cobalt and #rareearths. China has dominant positions in the country, part of their broader strategy to secure critical minerals dominance. Western interests are now aggressively looking at Kazakhstan as a source of supply, but they are well behind. Time will tell how rivalries play out. Quoting the article - ‘you need to have patience like China. They think strategically.’ With Saudi’s and the UAE also growing #mining positions assertively, time will tell whether their attention will turn to the country as well. Critical minerals rivalries are global, with similar dynamics in play across much of Africa, Latin America and Asia. There aren’t significant numbers of artisanal miners in Kazakhstan, but there are in many other countries. #asm produces significant quantities of many critical minerals, including cobalt, #copper, nickel, #manganese, #tin. The subsector is strategic, where professionalization can increase production by 2X, 3X or even 5X while also improving social and environmental outcomes. The combination of social, economic and environmental opportunities makes commercial sense for #mininginvestment and #impactinvestment. With intense geopolitical rivalries and clear economic opportunities in critical minerals mining, the development of a robust investment marketplace focused on ASM is inevitable. In the Fall of 2022, we convened a group of 16 Kazakh and U.S. experts to discuss and conduct research on issues that will shape Kazakhstan's future. They worked in groups to design and conduct policy-oriented research. Check out our first report by Madina Junussova Zarina Adambussinova and Alexander Diener on decarbonization and its impacts on mining towns. The report, which is based on fieldwork in Zhanaozen and Ekibastuz, points to three potential scenarios for the future of mining regions and towns (zero scenario, rapid transition and slow transition). Neocons keeping Kazakhstan in line with decarbonization. The US needs the contiguous Turkic alliance from Istanbul to Baku onto Central Asia to replace gas from Russia, and for Kazakhstan to use its Chinese Belt and Road infrastructure to do it; however this same reality doesn't allow for the Kazakh's to get rich from the East as well. Iran is one of the mineral countries in the world since this country has not succeeded in conducting deep explorations and most of the exploration activities have been superficial. The existence of metal potentials in the provinces of Sistan and Baluchistan, South Khorasan, Kerman, Hormozgan, Fars, Isfahan, Yazd, Markazi, Razavi Khorasan, Semnan, Qazvin, Zanjan and Azar Bayejan of Eastern and Western , Kurdistan, etc. Accurate and deep explorations can significantly increase the reserves of these minerals. In the past years, many drilling machines have been imported into the country. Hopefully, with the experience of experts inside and outside the country, we can bring foreign investors to the country by trying to increase reserves. In the future, we will have the country's largest gold mines in South Khorasan and Sistan and Baluchistan. The presence of good gold reserves in Bazman and Hired can make Iran one of the largest gold reserves in the world.

FQM EXPANDS CENTRAL AFRICA COPPERBELT LICENCES Canada-based First Quantum Minerals (FQM) has exercised its option to acquire the remaining two licences in the Central Africa Copperbelt from an agreement with London-listed African Pioneer’s 80%-owned subsidiary, African Pioneer Zambia. The option agreement, initially announced on January 22, saw FQM sign an addendum on February 15 confirming its decision to exercise the option over the two licences, which had not been previously exercised. These licences are identified as exploration licences 27770-HQ-LEL and 27768-HQ-LEL.
