It's summertime! Kids should be outside, having fun, and playing with friends. But with the pressure to win taking over youth sports, many kids are quitting before they even reach high school. 🏀 Insights from the Youth Sports Community 🌟 Q3: How do you combat travel teams using the Rec program as practice, for example in basketball? Courtney shares her thoughts: "Our issue right now is with travel teams wanting to use our rec league as a practice platform, and that's not fun for the kids who are just starting out. It detracts from their experience and turns a lot of kids off. Because if you go and you get stomped every weekend, then you don’t want to come back. So, that's one of our current struggles." 🏀 We want to know: What did sports mean to you when you were a child? ⛸ For Laura, sports were a lifeline for her grandson, Eli, who was able to play hockey because people like you gave to Athletics4Kids. "Hockey has been a release system for Eli's mind and emotions. Instead of going to dark places, he has flourished. He's made great friendships, he's working out his energy, and he's connected with the community. That's so important for kids, particularly those who come from difficult circumstances." In youth sports, the real victory isn't in the score, but in teaching resilience, understanding wins and losses, and most importantly, listening and supporting our kids. Remember, they're individuals first, athletes second.
