L&D in a global company 🌍 We can never be sure how our L&D initiatives are being fostered on the other side of the world and how they impact others. 🥐CCIFJ Breakfast ‘From Inclusion to Profitable Growth’ 🥐 On Tuesday, me & Maksym Demianov, representatives of RW NEA ED&I Council members, attended a breakfast discussion event organized by the CCI France Japon. Sandrine Monette 🇯🇵 & Marie-Solange VOTTERO from Lemon-Boost shared insights on how to drive diversity & inclusion effort internally by creating a bridge between the different business language in different organization departments. My biggest takeaway was being able to communicate HR function's initiatives to other business departments in their receptive language is certainly a crucial skill to become a strategic HR business partner in the organization. During this event's discussion, I also had a personal lightbulb moment in me. I realized that "diversity" is basically an ask to our hiring managers to step out of their comfort zone to challenge themselves to hire someone different from what they are familiar it. Therefore, it is normal for anyone to resist changing hiring patterns due to 'fear of unknown' and stick to the usual way. Then I also asked myself that why should anyone improve the diversity in their team or organization? It is because the variety of minds & perspectives can help covering blind spots that we all have. No one is perfect, everyone has blind spots and biases, but a team/organization with diverse people working together speaking up and sharing ideas freely will be able to make a strong inclusive decision, or to create an inclusive product, or to build an inclusive service, etc. Just sharing some thoughts out loud inspired by this event. Last week, I had the privilege to attend the annual HR day from Vlerick Business School together with my colleague Stéphanie Callebaut. What an edition it was! I followed some very interesting keynotes and inspiring sessions about retention, Squiggly careers and how AI Will change HR. And I have to say: the catering was top notch as well 😋🍦 Some main takeaways: - An inspiring career isn’t equal to climbing the corporate ladder for a lot of people - When incorpating new technologies in a work place, we need to look for “influencers” to get everyone on the same track - Technology, leadership and learning opportunities/career development are the most important topics in retaining people Looking forward to put the attained knowledge to use at delaware BeLux
