The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) issued a warning last week, after more than 113 cases of E-Coli were recorded across the UK. Although cases are likely linked to a nationally distributed product, the growing issue highlights how important food safety is. ✨ What is E-Coli? E-Coli is a bacterial infection, which can often lead to food-poisoning symptoms such as stomach pain, diarrhoea, vomiting, and fever. ✨ How is E-Coli spread? E-Coli is spread through eating undercooked meats or unwashed raw fruit and vegetables, drinking contaminated water, or coming into contact with people who have the illness - particularly if they have not washed their hands before handling food. ✨ How do I avoid E-Coli in my business? 1. Ensure staff are regularly washing their hands and cleaning surfaces, equipment, and utensils. Monika's smart handheld PA device can be programmed with regular hygiene reminders to ensure teams stay on top of tasks. 2. Thoroughly wash all raw fruit and veg before serving. This does not eliminate the risk, but does reduce it. 3. Check meat is properly cooked the whole way through. Beef is more susceptible to the bacteria, so operators should take special care when serving this.
