Life on this planet has evolved at the junction of diverse ecosystems. It has been designed to adapt, survive, and grow according to its natural settings. However, the rapid urbanization and degraded environments of urban ecosystems have posed the challenges of extreme climatic events, polluted and congested cities. The healthy living environments for us and future generations have become critically endangered. The abrupt planning of our cities without considering the relationship between built & open spaces has reduced the self-healing capacity of our natural systems. In such a scenario, these open spaces act as breathing spaces for the people and integrate intangible values of social, cultural, environmental and context specific conditions into ecologically healthy environments to meet present and future challenges. Whether it’s the ghats of Varanasi or the parks of Bangalore, these open spaces help in maintaining a balance between built and open. Very glad to be a part of the team that took the responsibility of the project through the inception to the ongoing phases.
