The Franchisee world - Interesting well done Domino's - "over 90 per cent of our franchisees started out making pizzas or as delivery drivers and have worked their way up.” For Andrew Rennie Domino's UK Chief Executive, the scheme is partly about providing his “Dominoids” with an entrepreneurial alternative to climbing the corporate ladder as an employee. “If you are a franchisee, you are running your own business. Within the walls of the franchise, you get to choose how you do that and where to invest your time,” he said. “Although not everyone wants to be in business — there is risk and you have to take on debt — over 90 per cent of our franchisees started out making pizzas or as delivery drivers and have worked their way up.” The sight of its branded scooters zipping around Kent must have made quite an impression on Lucy Harman. Not only has she been working for what is now Britain’s biggest pizza chain since shortly after she left school 16 years ago, she also has just sunk her life savings into the business and is busy preparing to open her own Domino’s franchise in Hayling Island, Hampshire, complete with her very own delivery bikes to look after. The chance to run her own small piece of the more than 1,300-strong Domino’s UK branch network came as the result of a company initiative called Homegrown Heroes, aimed at encouraging successful employees to take the plunge and become franchisees. Harman, the first woman to become a Homegrown Hero, said that despite her being “a walking Domino’s dictionary” and one of the firm’s top-performing store managers, without the push provided by the scheme she would not have had the confidence to go for it. “I don’t come from a business background. All my family work in regular jobs. Homegrown Heroes gave me the opportunity I needed. Burger King is about to see a royal makeover! In a ground-breaking $1 billion deal, Restaurant Brands is taking full charge of Carrols Restaurant Group, a major BK franhcisee, opening a new era for the king of burgers in the US! Intriguing, isn't it? But let me break it down for you. This master stroke decision comes as a part of the company's strategy to draw in the youthful crowd. They're saying goodbye to larger franchisees and welcoming local ones, sparking an interesting shift in the franchise model. Here's some perspective: Carrols controls over 1,000 Burger Kings across the US. And now, Restaurant Brands, owner of Tim Horton's, is about to have full control over this massive empire, serving up a promising transformation for the Burger King U.S. image. But get this. 600 outlets are about to receive a $500 million modernization upgrade, more than doubling the rapid pace of current remodels. These will be flipped back to single unit or smaller multi-unit operators to take on as franchisees. And what does this mean for the future? Restaurant Brand executives are eyeing an increase in U.S. franchisees from 300 to a stately 400-500 over the next five years! And all this while providing a premium of 13.4% to Carrols shareholders. Will Burger King U.S. see a renaissance, leading to stable sales and earnings growth? Northcoast Research analyst Jim Sanderson certainly thinks so. Open your eyes to a new dawn for the Burger King empire in the US, closing deals in the Q2, and brace yourselves for the regal transformation! Thoughts? Not everyone knows this McDonald’s story! From setting up burger stations to opening up multiple locations, this clip from “The Founder” shows how they have been in business for over 80 years. - Mainly because of the efficient systems built around it! Everything in their kitchen had a strategic place, from the placement of workstations to the step-by-step process that goes into making a meal at the franchise. This system was then made into a playbook or a manual that new franchise outlets would use which was fairly simple to set up. “Fast food” is fast only because the systems are efficient and quick. McDonald’s was one of the first businesses to crack this. This was a few decades ago. But now, building systems has gotten easier. With the right franchising technology, businesses can build efficient systems and grow them through it!

Mcdonalds’ business strategy was based on scale and speed. Scaling as much as they could at a speed as fast as they could. This gameplay worked for them. It gained nationwide popularity and gained a large piece of the opportunities created by the cultural transformation happening at the time. But In-N-Out's founder Harry Snyder took the exact opposite path for In-N-Out. From the early days, In-N-Out focused on creating a few products best of their abilities. And they remained family-owned saying no to franchising, taking investor capital, or even going public. He said no to scaling for the sake of it. Instead, he chose the slow and steady path. Because, Snyder realized if they went in the direction of scale and speed, it would ruin In-N-Out's mom-and-pop vibe. Before the rapid industrialization, if you go to a restaurant or a store, you can just feel the close personal feeling with the business. You can see them in the eye. You can see genuine smiles on their faces, and the owners are there directly communicating with the customer. Though there were some dysfunctional ones, Many of the businesses out there at the time had that kind of closeness between the business and the customer. In-N-Out had that from the beginning and their leadership kept that vibe ever since.
