💧August is National Water Quality Month! 💧 The Land Trust for Tennessee understands just how important land is - but a major part of what makes our land here in Tennessee so valuable, diverse, and life-sustaining is the water that flows through it. The Land Trust is driven to continue protecting areas of high water quality to ensure a healthy future for generations to come. We did this water quality analysis, based on a combination of recent, on-the-ground sampling data and land-based factors, to give us a reading on the health of our watersheds. Further, it assists in the prioritization of land conservation projects that will have the greatest impact on nearby and downstream water quality. Our political systems seem to favor right now over what is right for our future. Too many politicians are still in denial about our human-driven warming. How do you make difficult decisions that will make our communities more resilient to climate impacts if you deny human-caused warming or you believe your voters are in denial? The reality is that the majority of voters, including among Republicans, are concerned about climate change and its impacts to our water, our food systems, our biodiversity, our very safety and wellbeing. Unfortunately, this Supermajority is often silent and on the other side there is a loud echo chamber of denial supported by the fossil fuel industry and fed by the arrogance of the few who are so out of touch with what is happening all around us. In the coming elections, I hope you will choose leaders who have their eyes open to what is happening and understand that we are going to need to make some hard decisions and invest in climate solutions if we want our children to have a future. Even our water is at stake. Denying climate change will not stop its impacts and we simply can't afford leaders who deny that it is happening. Part of the reason we have arrived at this moment of water shortage is because too many leaders have been ignoring the warnings of our scientific community. Ignoring our role in warming our planet is impacting our food, water, safety, and the health of our children and others who we love. Please understand that a vote for climate denial is a vote against protecting life. Please vote for leaders who will work to protect children from the ever increasing harms of climate change. There are so many climate solutions and ways to build resilience, including with our water crisis. We need leaders who will lead on climate. #vote #childrenshealth #childrenswellbeing #protectchildren #climateresilience

The California Water Plan contains a massive wave of information, so DWR is summarizing the highlights for you in smaller “splashes”! 💦 This splash is pretty simple but it’s the core concept that developing statewide and watershed resilience requires local, State, and federal investments. DWR is committed to continuing to fund watershed resilience programs for our water resilient future. I bring together diverse stakeholders to care for and recover the Great Lakes for future generations.
🚨Michiganders, we need your help. If you’re a regular reader of Michigan Trout, you know the work of the Water Use Advisory Council (WUAC) has significant implications for coldwater conservation. In 2022, the council made recommendations regarding needed improvements, deficiencies, and investments into Michigan’s Water Use & Assessment Program. We cannot let these critical recommendations go unfunded. Contact your elected officials today to urge them to provide necessary funding to implement the WUAC’s recommendations and help Michigan fulfill its obligation to protect Great Lakes’ water resources for current and future generations. “The numbers are clear. It’s time to elevate the role of stormwater capture in the national water conversation," says Bruk Berhanu, Ph.D., P.E., lead author of new #StormwaterAssessment. The analysis, conducted in partnership with 2NDNATURE, titled “Untapped Potential: An Assessment of Urban Stormwater Runoff Potential in the United States” finds US urban areas have the potential to generate 59.5 million acre-feet of stormwater annually, on average. This is equivalent to an annual average of more than 53 billion gallons per day. Register for the webinar to learn more about the report’s findings: https://lnkd.in/gf36YpAJ Download the report: https://lnkd.in/gtaeAarw #RethinkRunoff
