Our political systems seem to favor right now over what is right for our future. Too many politicians are still in denial about our human-driven warming. How do you make difficult decisions that will make our communities more resilient to climate impacts if you deny human-caused warming or you believe your voters are in denial? The reality is that the majority of voters, including among Republicans, are concerned about climate change and its impacts to our water, our food systems, our biodiversity, our very safety and wellbeing. Unfortunately, this Supermajority is often silent and on the other side there is a loud echo chamber of denial supported by the fossil fuel industry and fed by the arrogance of the few who are so out of touch with what is happening all around us. In the coming elections, I hope you will choose leaders who have their eyes open to what is happening and understand that we are going to need to make some hard decisions and invest in climate solutions if we want our children to have a future. Even our water is at stake. Denying climate change will not stop its impacts and we simply can't afford leaders who deny that it is happening. Part of the reason we have arrived at this moment of water shortage is because too many leaders have been ignoring the warnings of our scientific community. Ignoring our role in warming our planet is impacting our food, water, safety, and the health of our children and others who we love. Please understand that a vote for climate denial is a vote against protecting life. Please vote for leaders who will work to protect children from the ever increasing harms of climate change. There are so many climate solutions and ways to build resilience, including with our water crisis. We need leaders who will lead on climate. #vote #childrenshealth #childrenswellbeing #protectchildren #climateresilience

Across the US, billions of gallons of raw sewage overflow into waterways each year during heavy rain. This isn't just a distant problem – here in Northern Kentucky, a staggering 1.5 billion gallons escape our sewer systems annually. Why is this happening? ⬇️ Many older urban areas, like Covington and Newport, have a combined sewer system. This means rainwater and wastewater share the same pipes. When heavy rain hits, the system becomes overwhelmed, leading to overflows into our rivers and streams, creating a serious environmental hazard. Our Solution 💧 Clean H2O40 is SD1’s commitment to increasing our capacity to better manage the flow of wastewater and stormwater in Northern Kentucky. Through a number of strategic projects specifically designed to address sewer overflows, SD1 will meet the requirements of Northern Kentucky’s amended consent decree and improve the quality of life in our community. How about we build more dams. How about we balance the needs of humans against the needs of fish that are not even native to California. How about we come up with better water solutions than a high speed rail. How about we bring back leaders like President Kennedy and Pat Brown who looked into the future 60 plus years back in the 60’s and gave us water and who could lead smart folks to do so again. https://lnkd.in/gZY6HDpH

Have you ever noticed the thin, black fabric fences and hay-filled rolls around a construction site? Get this: they help protect our water system and aquatic life from the effects of storms and stormwater. Storms can come and go, but the effects of precipitation can last much longer. Heavy rain can carry soil and other sediment from construction sites into drainage systems, eventually reaching natural bodies of water. Silt fences and hay wattles act like filters, drastically reducing the amount of soil and sediment that can leave the construction site. Join us in championing water quality regulations, because every drop counts! #StormwaterCompliance #ProtectOurWaterways #CleanWater
