Today's Update! Should #EmploymentServices be outsourced to private companies? Gesine Stephan at Institute for Employment Research of the German Federal Employment Agency presents the pro and cons in her IZA World of Labor article: 'Public or private job placement services — Are private ones more effective?' #unemployment #privatization Elevator pitch Expenditures on job placement and related services make up a substantial share of many countries’ gross domestic products. Contracting out to private providers is often proposed as a cost-efficient alternative to the state provision of placement services. However, the responsible state agency has to be able and willing to design and monitor sufficiently complete contracts to ensure that the private contractors deliver the desired service quality. None of the empirical evidence indicates that contracting-out is necessarily more effective or more cost-efficient than public employment services. https://lnkd.in/edTPvK3T

Steve Chilcott and I do a deep dive into Labour's Employment Policies - we look at the good and the bad and how these will impact employers and in particular - the unintended consequences. Whilst we wait for their manifesto - this is from their website. Including the bad - Abolishing Zero Hours Contracts - MANDATING DEI in Employer's Policies AND Corporate and Public Sector Procurement - Forcing Employers permit union reps to speak with non union employees - Forcing Employers to promote Union Membership - DAY 1 Employment Rights - claim constructive dismissal from DAY 1 and the not so bad - Bereavement Leave - more sensible parental leave - fair tipping - banning unpaid internships #DEI #LabourParty #2024Election #UKElection #GeneralElection #ZeroHoursContracts #ESG #Procurement #UKTradeUnions #EmploymentRights If you are an employer in the UK you may want to remove any heavy, sharp or valuable articles of a sentimental nature from your immediate vicinity because Steve and Richard are about to do a deep dive into the Labour Party's Employment Policies .... and.... spoiler alert - it ain't great news for employers. [CASE REVIEW] In 2022, a Full Bench of the Fair Work Commission upheld the actions of a company which directed its employees to relocate interstate or have their employment terminated. Notably, the Full Bench concluded that the burden (of relocation) on the employee is not a relevant consideration where relocation is authorised under the employment contract. However, it may well be a relevant consideration if the contract is silent on the issue or if it arises under an enterprise agreement. For employees, this decision highlights the importance of understanding what can be required of you under your employment contract, as it may affect your entitlements when employment circumstances change. https://bit.ly/3QmDXlX #employmentlawyers #industriallawyers #workplacerights #mineworkersterminated

I am curious to see what people think about this post. Do we all give a 2 week notice out of the feeling of professional obligation? Do we do it out of fear or retaliation of some sort? I have always wondered what the origin story of the 2week notice was.
2 weeks notice is a courtesy. Not a requirement. No one can make you stay at a job, regardless of how "official" their policy is. That's the definition of 'at will' employment. Employers rarely give YOU 2 weeks notice when they lay you off.... But you are being 'unprofessional' when you don't give them notice. Isn't that funny how it all works? #resumewriting #2weeksnotice #jobsearch

This week I wanted to talk about Job Evaluation. What are the benefits of Job Evaluation? What does JE for organisations 🏢 and Employees 👩🚒 👨💻 👩🔬 👨🏫 👨🌾 👩⚕️ 👨✈️ ? It's simple! JE Supporting fairer organisations ⚖ Our Job Evaluation scheme covers all roles within an organisation and provides the basis of a fair and orderly grading structure. The benefits of job evaluation (JE) are as relevant today as ever. Analytical Job Evaluation schemes provide the means to create a fair and equitable internal relativity. This, in turn, underpins a pay framework to support equal pay for work of equal value and elimination of pay discrimination. #socialhousing #PrivateSector #NotForProfit #salary #compensation #jobevaluation #fairpay #jobdescription
