🌊☀️ Exploring the Potential of Offshore Solar Power: The Méga Sète Project While the topic of seabird droppings on offshore solar panels may not be glamorous, it’s crucial to address! Are there any recommended practices in this field, Bureau Veritas Group, DNV (cf. bird deterrents, cleaning systems, etc.)? The Méga Sète project, a groundbreaking initiative designed to produce 1 megawatt of electricity 2 km from the coast, has secured €6 million in funding from ANR, the French National Research Agency's France 2030 programme. This first floating photovoltaic panel park aims to demonstrate the feasibility of offshore solar technology (see: https://lnkd.in/d2G8m-PR ). The project, led by SolarinBlue, Technip Energies, the University of Montpellier, and Sorbonne University – Oceanographic Observatory of Banyuls-Sur-Mer, represents a significant step forward in renewable energy. 🌍 🔹 Key Highlights: - Innovative Approach: Solar panels not just on land or roofs, but at sea. - Significant Challenges: Facing weather conditions and waves, highlighting the potential of marine energies. - Funding and Support: €6 million secured under France 2030, operated by ADEME. - Technological Advancement: Builds on the success of the Sun'Sète demonstrator, inaugurated in 2023. 🔹 Project Details: - Location: Sète-Frontignan commercial port district, 2 km from the coast. - Timeline: Commissioning scheduled for late 2025. - Scale: The first 1 MWp offshore solar park in France and the Mediterranean, covering one hectare. - Production: Estimated annual output of over 1300 megawatt-hours, transported via an undersea cable (Nexans are you there too?). Aurélien Croq, CEO of SolarinBlue, states, "Méga Sète will be certified for waves over 10 meters: our technology is ready to be deployed in ports, island territories, and integrated into offshore wind farms." SolarinBlue's vision includes creating hybrid offshore wind-solar parks, with an ambitious goal of launching the first European 1-gigawatt projects by 2030. Exciting times ahead for renewable energy and offshore solar power! 💡🌍 #RenewableEnergy #SolarPower #OffshoreSolar #MegaSete #Innovation #CleanEnergy #France2030 #Seabirdpoop #Guano #Nexans

G7 Renewable Energies was speaking on the 3rd day of the Windaba conference in Cape Town, South Africa. During the panel “Evolution of the Wind Industry” on Day 3 of the conference, G7 CEO Dr Kilian Hagemann noted that opening the sector to both private and public sector off-takers is key to building the wind industry’s resilience. Additionally, Dr Kilian Hagemann mentioned that #BidWindow7 is expected to see a price increase for wind energy relative to previous rounds due to rising costs related to grid capacity constraints and an undersubscription of the wind procurement target. Mr. Dhesen Moodley, Managing Director at Globeleq, shared his delight at the incredible diversity in the industry, particularly the emergence of young and diverse talent, which will be essential for the industry's growth in the coming decades. Ms Mercia Grimbeek added that it is amazing how industry players collaborate and work together to grow the industry: "We don’t see each other as competitors any more but as one industry working together for the future of energy.” Dr Hagemann remarked that while private sector Power Purchase Agreements are exciting, they face different challenges in reaching financial close compared to public IPP projects. Lastly, he also pointed out that new wind turbine suppliers are now entering the South African market, which will lead to increased competition in that space and ultimately lower the cost of wind energy in the country. Many thanks extended to the excellent panellists and moderators: Moderator: Wangari Muchiri - Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) Director, Africa, Dhesen Moodley, Mercia Grimbeek and Dr Kilian Hagemann. Our thanks also to the South African Wind Energy Association (SAWEA) and all the teams who worked tirelessly to yet again bring Windaba to Cape Town! 🌬️ #Windaba #WindEnergy #Resilience #EnergyTransition #RenewableEnergy #DiversityInEnergy #BidWindow7 #PublicPrivatePartnerships #GridConstraints #WindIndustry

It was a pleasure to be on the panel at the European Business Association Armenia today where I presented an overview of Renewables in Armenia and its huge potential thanks to geography, growing government support and favourable market conditions. The Armenian government has embarked on an ambitious ‘Vision 2040’ initiative aiming to achieve ‘maximum use of renewable energy potential’, this includes reaching 15% of all power production coming from solar by 2030. Armenia's commitment to making these goals a reality has already started to be seen through partnerships with ANIF and Masdar, private sector involvement and investment to expand into wind, and further develop hydro-electric power, overall boosting energy efficiency and making their ambitious plans a reality. Discussion on the panel continued with sustainable development including cleaner fuels and electric vehicles, and Armenia’s continued efforts in building renewable energy infrastructure. It’s also fitting to mention that now is an excellent time to get involved with Armenia’s renewables sector, as the momentum has begun and demand is certainly building. At Haig Barrett Partners, If you would like to find out more about Armenia’s renewable energy sector or are considering entering the market, I would be delighted to speak further on this. You can get in touch directly at haig@haigbarrettpartners.com Thanks you Lusine Manucharyan DipSBP, MIEMA CEnv for including me in your prestigious panel. it was excellent to hear from my fellow panelists Armen Dallakyan, Hayk Margarian and Jon Dee on the topic of Sustainable Investment. #armenia #renewableenergy #sustainability #renewablefuture #energyinnovation #netzero #netzeroemissions #sustainabledevelopment #renewableenergysolutions

Floating solar illuminating promising path to greener and more sustainable future As the world turns its focus to combating climate change and embracing renewable energy, a powerful fusion is taking centre stage: floating solar installations at hydropower plants. This innovative synergy of two eco-friendly giants - hydropower and solar energy - is not limited to any one region. From the sun-bathed landscapes of Southeast Asia to water reservoirs in far-flung corners of the globe, floating solar is illuminating a promising path to a greener and more sustainable future. For nations blessed with abundant solar resources but faced with limited land space, the concept of floating PV, or FPV, has emerged as a promising clean energy solution. Recently, researchers from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), supported by the laboratory’s partnership with the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Regional Development Mission for Asia, conducted a groundbreaking evaluation of FPV potential in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). In Southeast Asia, the pursuit of ambitious renewable energy goals has led countries to seek innovative solutions to meet their targets. Floating photovoltaic (FPV) technology has emerged as a promising avenue to turn these aspirations into reality. As a collective effort, ASEAN nations have set a commendable target of achieving 35% of installed power capacity from renewable sources by 2025. This ambitious objective has fueled their interest in exploring bold and creative approaches, including the development of FPV systems.
