Today, we honor the incredible legacy of Nelson Mandela by dedicating 67 minutes to making a positive impact in our communities. Here are three meaningful ways you can spend your 67 minutes advocating for social justice: Volunteer Your Time: Join a local organization that supports marginalized communities. Whether it’s a soup kitchen, a shelter, or a youth program, your time can make a difference. Educate and Advocate: Use your voice on social media to raise awareness about social justice issues. Share articles, stories, and resources that highlight the importance of respecting and fighting for the rights of others. Support a Cause: Donate to organizations that work tirelessly to promote equality and justice. Even a small contribution can help further the mission of fighting for human rights and providing support to those in need. Let’s come together and make a lasting impact, just as Madiba envisioned. 💪🏿💙 #MandelaDay #67Minutes #Toka #PathwaysToJustice #EndDomesticViolence #CommunityStrength #SocialJustice #PathwaysToJustice #Toka2024 #Hlanganisa

Today is the World Day of Social Justice, a day that aims to raise awareness of issues such as poverty, exclusion, gender inequality, unemployment and human rights violations. In Australia, one of the most glaring social justice issues we face is the social and economic disadvantages suffered by First Nations Australians. First Nations people suffer from systemic inequality and racism, and their life expectancy is 8 years less than that of non-indigenous Australians. To show your support for this day, you can volunteer with community organisations, donate to social justice charities, use your platform to advocate for social justice issues, establish corporate social responsibility programs at your workplace and educate yourself and others about Australia's most pressing social justice issues. #worlddayofsocialjustice #socialjustice #equality #diversity #socialinclusion #inclusion #firstnations

Today is World Day of Social Justice, as declared by the United Nations, to remind us of the need to build a fairer, more equitable society. So today we wanted to introduce you to one of Greatest Good's members doing that. We are pleased to introduce Be Hers Ltd. They are a Tasmanian-based charity and social enterprise educating the community about the growing issues of slave labour and exploitation. Think it doesn't happen in Australia? It definitely does and the Be Hers not only helps rescue women and children from human trafficking, they seek justice for these survivors. This is important work to restore basic human rights and create social justice. Loving all the posts on violence against women across LinkedIn. My FB memories tell me that 10 years ago I was working on project with two Iranian refugee women who'd been photographers before they'd lost everything when fleeing violence. I'd set up a photo shoot at a local men's shed and had a camera donated for the cause. The women were nervous but excited about the opportunity (the first since leaving Iran). When we arrived, we were greeted by wolf whistles from the men. A good way to let women know they are not safe or welcome in this 'men's' space. There are so many ways women are disrespected. The org I was doing this job for was a job I took when desperate for income and agreed to a 30% fee reduction. They also decided at the end of the job, not to pay for the last 2 weeks of work, meaning I couldn't pay my childcare bill or my mortgage. The problem of respect for women is at all levels - in community spaces, on the street, in workplaces and in families. It's a problem with you, with me, with all of us and how we choose to behave towards each other. Changing this means effective education, just policing, stable childhoods, thriving communities, compassionate care, a fair economy, responsible government, flourishing and fair business. We have the solutions and there are many grassroots organisations like mine implementing those solutions. We can't do it alone. #violenceaaginstwomen #enoughisenough #familyviolence #respectwomen #wholeofcommunityapproches #grassrootssolutions #fundus #donatenow #marchforwomen #nextsteps #innovationapproaches #wholisticapproches #traumarecovery #traumasensitive

Judgments about human trafficking made in the public domain, e.g. on social media, are often based on misconceptions rather than fact and can result in victim-blaming, a decrease in public support, and fewer donations to anti-trafficking charities, according to organizations working on the ground. Blue Dragon Children's Foundation, a Hanoi-based NGO, describes some comments on its social media posts as “surprising”, with public perception often based on a tiny minority of cases. This trend aligns with the broader issue of misinformation and misunderstanding around human trafficking, reflected in simplified and sensationalist media narratives which are often criticized by survivors for perpetuating stereotypes and falsehoods, misrepresenting victims, and profiting from victims’ stories without centering their voices. The phenomenon highlights the need for the dissemination of accurate information and greater efforts to promote a deeper understanding of the complex issues surrounding human trafficking, practitioners say. Founder/Director Not Our Native Daughters- Missing, Murdered & Indigenous Women & Girls - Human Trafficking in Indian Country. Subject - Matter - Expert in Indigenous Issues - Public Speaker - Trainer - Advocate!
The violence initiated by Christopher Columbus and his men set a brutal precedent for the treatment of Indigenous peoples that continues to affect Indigenous people today. As one of the earliest traffickers, Columbus ordered his men to raid villages, kidnapping young Indigenous girls to be offered to new settlers. This normalized a pattern of violence that would persist for centuries. The legacy of colonial rule—rooted in exploitation, dehumanization, and systemic oppression—has a direct connection to the ongoing crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG). At Not Our Native Daughters, a national MMIWG and anti-human trafficking organization, we have been advocating and training on these issues for over 10 years. Our work spans federal, state, tribal, and urban settings, addressing how the trafficking of MMIWG disproportionately affects Native Americans and Alaska Natives. With historical trauma, lack of resources for Native victims, and poverty rates - just to name a few - making our communities vulnerable, Native women and girls are particularly at risk. Shockingly, 80-90% of violence against Native American women is committed by non-Native men, reflecting the persistence of colonial-era patterns. We are committed to correcting historical truths and working alongside others who are dedicated to public safety. It’s crucial to understand that while the victimization of Indigenous people began during the colonial era, it does not have to end this way. As a small, grassroots organization, Not Our Native Daughters exists because of people who believe in our mission and amplify our message of change. Native-led nonprofits like ours are the least funded in the nonprofit sector. So even if you cannot donate, we ask you to share our message with your community. Will you stand with us in this fight to end the violence?
