#factualfrontiers The company that makes Ferrero Rocher also makes Tic Tacs. Indeed, it's true! Ferrero, an Italian company, owns 35 iconic brands globally including Nutella, Kinder chocolates, Rocher, and Tic Tacs of course to name a few. Tic Tac were first produced in 1969 and are now available in a variety of flavours in over 100 countries. They are composed of 94.5% sugar content but are marketed as sugar-free mints in the U.S. This might seem misleading, but there's a specific regulatory reason behind it. According to the FDA's stringent rules on food labeling, the brand in question must report the amount of sugar in any item that is 0.5 grams per serving or greater in U.S. Now the nutrition facts label on the container displays that it lists sugars as 0g because a serving size of Tic Tac’s is one. One Tic Tac is 0.49 grams, falling just below the federal regulations on when sugar needs to be reported to the public. So, despite being essentially made of sugar, Tic Tacs can legally be labeled as sugar-free due to their small size. They are marketed with slogans like "The 1½ Calorie Breath Mint" in the US and "Two hours of Tic Tac freshness in less than two calories" internationally. Special editions tied to popular movies and TV shows, such as Minions and The Simpsons, have also been released. Tic tac also partnered with Coca-Cola in 2020 and Sprite in 2023 to produce limited edition flavours. Ferrero continues to innovate with products like Tic Tac Chill and bold flavors, solidifying Tic Tacs as a beloved choice in the world of confectionery. P.S.: It is thought that the design under the top flap was created to allow for a single Tic Tac to be released. However, I prefer to pour out a handful of mints, carefully putting them back one by one until I am left with that one piece to eat.
