Isthmus Energy Systems is focused on developing agrivoltaic projects at the intersection of energy, agriculture, and sustainability.

The hard to abate sectors will ironically become central to the carbon removal industry. As we transition away from petrochemicals, we will source carbon from the environment and waste streams that originated in the atmosphere. Regenerative agriculture, vertical farming, and open ocean marine agriculture (integrated into floating wind and solar) will provide multiple points along the supply chain to capture carbon. Biochar, bio oil, graphite, graphene, and syngas can be used to replace all existing petrochemical applications. It does require abundant cheap energy that is rapidly approaching. Negative electricity prices with demand response will make carbon removal a powerful flexible load to help manage the grid. Flash graphene and graphite can fuel the growing demand for batteries and other advanced products. Universal Matter has a great process that is scaling bulk quality graphene rapidly. Long duration energy storage from syngas is powerful and the CO2 can be captured to make products like carbon fiber, aggregates for concrete, or even synthetic methane to use as carbon neutral rocket fuel or to synthesize other chemicals from. Syngas can be used directly in making Steel and be a source of hydrogen for other applications too. We can also eliminate landfills, PFAS, and other industrial waste with plasma gasification that produces a carbon rich graphite material and syngas product. All the solutions exist. We just need to build it!

Every dollar we mobilize to decarbonize the industrial sector counts. We announced $254M to bring together private industry, academic institutions, nonprofits, & our National Labs to reduce greenhouse gases from the industrial sector. Read on to see the break down for this funding. 🟢$171M for 49 projects across 21 states The selected projects will accelerate the development of innovative decarbonization technologies. These include slashing carbon from food & beverage operations 🍔 and overcoming challenges associated with using hydrogen in steelmaking 🔥. 🟢$83M for more funding opportunities We’re accepting applications NOW for projects that focus on applied research, development, & demonstration for the highest greenhouse gas-emitting industrial subsectors. Specifically, chemicals and fuels; iron and steel; food and beverage; building and infrastructure materials (including cement and concrete, asphalt pavements, and glass); and forest products. Concept papers are due March 19, 2024. Details here: https://lnkd.in/gkyun87b https://lnkd.in/ePAnz5z5
