Every dollar we mobilize to decarbonize the industrial sector counts. We announced $254M to bring together private industry, academic institutions, nonprofits, & our National Labs to reduce greenhouse gases from the industrial sector. Read on to see the break down for this funding. 🟢$171M for 49 projects across 21 states The selected projects will accelerate the development of innovative decarbonization technologies. These include slashing carbon from food & beverage operations 🍔 and overcoming challenges associated with using hydrogen in steelmaking 🔥. 🟢$83M for more funding opportunities We’re accepting applications NOW for projects that focus on applied research, development, & demonstration for the highest greenhouse gas-emitting industrial subsectors. Specifically, chemicals and fuels; iron and steel; food and beverage; building and infrastructure materials (including cement and concrete, asphalt pavements, and glass); and forest products. There's a new funding opportunity from the California Energy Commission for up to $6.1 million in financing for industrial carbon dioxide utilization for "value added products". Up to $2.1 million of that funding is dedicated to research and development of the CO2-to-product pipeline with grants ranging from $300K to $500K. Another $4 million is available for two pilot projects in the state. Technologies available for the grant funding include: 🏗 CO2 to cement, concrete, and materials ⛽ CO2 to fuels, plastics, and chemicals 👖 CO2 to textiles and food Hundreds of companies around the world are developing technologies in each of these categories. These are early-stage businesses like the AIR COMPANY or Twelve, which are making chemicals and fuels. Others, like CarbonCure Technologies, Brimstone , and CarbonBuilt are making cement mixtures that can capture and use CO2. Out in Tennessee, SkyNano is making carbon nanotubes out of captured CO2 thanks, in part to a collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory. And finally, businesses like Rubi Laboratories and LanzaTech are developing textiles, while Air Protein is making food, all from CO2. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Fossil Energy and Carbon Management released a Request for Information: Industrial #Deployment and #Demonstration Opportunities for #CarbonCapture Technologies that closes on April 1, 2024. Through the request for information, the Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management seeks input from key partners (domestic and international) on what is needed to accelerate deployment of carbon capture, use, and storage for industrial systems to support the energy transition, eliminate greenhouse gas emissions, produce clean energy, create well-paying union jobs, and enable a net-zero carbon emissions economy by 2050, all while prioritizing environmental equity and support for underserved communities. #carbonmanagement #carbon https://lnkd.in/d5f6nccW

The data speaks for itself: landfills are evolving. With the developments in landfill gas-to-energy technology, we need to consider this as our strongest viable option when it comes to achieving circularity. No other waste disposal method has a higher capture rate or greater return-value. At Serüm Plastics, we design our plastics specifically for these environments in order to optimize energy recovery (while remaining recyclable). Here's a breakdown of this week's latest developments in landfill gas-to-energy: 💡 Kinder Morgan, Inc. has $77MIL invested in RNG. They're expecting an annual production capacity of 6.4 billion cubic feet of RNG by the end of 2024. 💡 WM, the leading producer of landfill gas-to-energy in North America, will build another LFGE facility in Washington. It is expected to produce enough energy to heat roughly 10,000 homes. 💡 NextEra Energy Resources will break ground on a new LFGE facility in Oklahoma, which will help lessen OK's reliance on fossil fuels once completed. 💡 Waga Energy is set to build a to build a LFGE facility in Greensburg, Indiana which will add more than 200,000 mmBtus of RNG into the natural gas grid once it is up and running in 2025. https://lnkd.in/dDDTPaqh

Very engaging discussion in our "Decarbonizing Industries: A North-South Collaborative Approach" event at the Clean Energy Ministerial today. A few interesting takeaways on what that collaboration should look like: 🌍 Decarbonized industry requires clean energy, so industrial value chains will shift to places with the best clean energy resources, away from the global North and towards the South. This can be done in ways that benefit both sides, so global North and South countries should start discussing the prospect seriously. 💲 Decarbonized industrial goods will be more expensive to produce than their carbon-intensive counterparts for many years to come, so levelling the playing field will be crucial, particularly through carbon pricing. Given that many industrial goods are internationally traded, global South and North countries should work together to align carbon prices and carbon tariffs to create an international level playing field. ✅ All of the above will require robust and widely accepted international standards for decarbonized industrial goods. As the recent Standards Map of the Industrial Transition Accelerator (ITA) shows, these standards are already under development for key industrial goods, so global South and North countries should collaborate to drive their alignment, acceptance, and adoption.
