“Lights. Camera. Coffee Machine.” The toys are dreaming of breaking the internet. Can you guess what ad I’m talking about? If you guessed Argos, I owe you a coffee (good look claiming that bad boy). The & Partnership got a lot right when they cooked up this 30-second wonder. First off, props for actually telling customers what you sell — toys, tech and homeware. It sounds silly, but a lot of brands don’t do this with their Xmas ads, *Cough Cough* John Lewis. Then we’ve got the embracing of the TikTok-obsessed youth of today and their passion for dance. Argos have relatability down at a time when parents are sourcing gifts. I also love how Argos subtly show us the products they sell — we’ve got a coffee machine pumping mist into the scene. A hairdryer makes an appearance as a wind machine. And, of course, the whole thing is filmed on a Google Pixel by Trev, the friendly dinosaur. I’ve got to admit the ending made me chuckle. And as an Ad Grad, I’m not afraid to admit it. But does it make me want to shop at Argos? Put it this way. I'll always remember the exhilaration of my first brand shoot. Two years ago, amidst Mumbai's scorching May heat, we captured Metro Brands Limited’s Mochi Shoes: ‘Makers of Awesome’ campaign with six talented artists. Reflecting on the past two years of multiple campaign shoots, here are my key insights: - Embrace criticism as constructive feedback: Creative individuals often intertwine their identity with their work. Approach critiques from seniors with a clear mind, seeking to find common ground between their perspective and your own input. Remember, while passion fuels your creativity, it's essential to align with the client's expectations. - Establish trust with at least one member of your creative team: In the creative field, self-doubt can be pervasive, especially for young professionals. Identify someone who believes in your vision, providing a simple nod of reassurance during moments of uncertainty. During this particular shoot, I sought reassurance from shrishti ashok for almost every other influencer bite and product shot being taken 😅 - Don't forget to enjoy: Experiment and go with the flow! Ok, seriously, E.L.F is one of my favorite brands to watch for how they position themselves and market their products. While knowing your audience is one of the first concepts you learn and need to master as a marketer, I find so that so many brands overlook or underestimate the power of knowing their customers. My take on E.L.F. BEAUTY is that they not only know and understand their market, but they also know who THEY are as a company and brand. Knowing your audience goes both ways; you need to know them, and they need to know you. Looking forward to following E.L.F and seeing where they go from here!
