#DreamInBlack is more than a vision; it's a commitment to a future where self-expression, justice, and community thrive—especially for Black women and girls who are often left out of the innovation conversation. I'm thrilled to cap off this year by sharing a powerful experience from 'The Futurist,' presented by AT&T Rising Future Makers—a series connecting HBCU students with industry leaders. In a recent episode, I had the privilege of interviewing an extraordinary individual who embodies the spirit of innovation and has inspired me for years: Cadence Patrick, a brilliant alumna of Black Girls Code. I must admit, as our conversation unfolded, I was brought to tears (literally), needing a moment to collect myself. I've known Cadence since she was a bright-eyed and ambitious middle school student. Witnessing her soar and reach her dreams filled my heart with joy—it was the balm my spirit needed in this moment. Our dialogue delved into the boundless potential of Black Women in STEM and beyond, revealing countless gems! Today, on Winning Women Wednesday! We're shining the spotlight on a trailblazer in the automotive design world, Emeline King. Emeline's journey with Ford Motor Company is not just a story of personal achievement but a milestone in the history of automobile design. As the first African American female designer at Ford, Emeline King's contributions have been pivotal, yet not widely known. Her love for the Ford Mustang, which began in childhood, was a seed that grew into a remarkable career. Emeline's father, a Ford plastic model specialist, introduced her to the world of automobiles, sparking a passion that would define her life. Her work on the interior design of the 1994 Ford Mustang stands out, with its distinctive two-tone, twin-arched dashboard-console - a testament to her innovative vision. The 1990 Ford Probe and 2000 Ford Thunderbird also bear her design signature. Notably, she patented a 15-inch wheel cover for the 1989 Thunderbird. Emeline King's story is a powerful reminder of the importance of representation and breaking barriers in every field. Her legacy in automotive design is not just about the cars she helped shape but about the path she carved for future designers. Risk and Rise! Essence Magazine (May/June 2022) reported that in 2021 "181,000 Black women have exited the workforce." In fact, when you see a Black woman, you are likely looking at a fully engaged entrepreneur or an employee who is nurturing a business idea on the side. The fact is that there is a movement across the nation, towards leadership fulfillment that is landing ten toes down in the terra firmer called "ownership. " Since "startups" are high risk across all demographics, League Of Black Women created an Accelerator to help Black women look at acquiring existing manufacturing companies that already have revenue/operations in place, newly on the market due to lack of traditional ownership succession. Working with our partners at Manufacturing Renaissance, League Of Black Women is leveraging the energy of this modern woman driven entrepreneurial movement. Fueled by the well documented rising expectation for leadership fulfillment and honed by our legendary managerial work experience, Black women, are aimed to build exponential communal household wealth by owning companies that scale to provide America's essential production needs and middle-class paying careers. 181,000 and rising. ❗️FOUR MEN❗️were selected this year to receive the “Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg WOMAN of Leadership Award. An award that is supposed to honor an extraordinary WOMAN who has exercised a positive and notable influence on society. ⁉️Welcome to the Twilight Zone⁉️ The Dwight D. Opperman Foundation, which organizes the awards, revealed that this year it would honor Rupert Murdoch, Elon Musk, Martha Stewart, Michael Milken, and Sylvester Stallone. 😡WTH?😡 “On CNN, RBG’s son, James S. Ginsburg, called the decision to honor a group of men and convicted felons in his mother’s name “desecration” and said his mother would be “appalled” if she saw the list. “The two that obviously stand out here are Elon Musk and Rupert Murdoch,” James said. “When you think of trying to create a more just society, which of course was Mom’s ultimate goal, those are probably about the last names that would come to mind.” - Tariro Mzezewa, The Cut RBG has to be fuming watching this desecration of her memory take place. 🤬🤬🤬 Seriously? There aren’t five women in the entire world deserving of this award to recognize women? The sexism is neverending. It would be awful if this was done intentionally to mock RBG. A few days late sharing this, but as you likely already know, Ashley Panelli and I have the privilege of being the first Black women to lead 9to5. While it's an exciting shift to Black leadership and a shared leadership model, it is not without challenges. Specifically, we wrote this article to highlight the challenge of the under-funding of Black-led organizations. It's a call to action for funders to make deep mulit-year investments in Black leadership and not simply lip service.

Highlighting this for EVERY women. 👏 What caught me about this specific post is the focus on “we,” power. Yes, the word “we” holds all the power that is needed to break the glass wall. Ladies, you have more than enough power. Don’t let society tell you different, but you don’t have to do it alone. Making Millennium can be your “we.” This is a community by women, for women.
