Many mistakenly believe that Incognito Mode and other “private” modes block all tracking in web browsers. In reality, these modes only stop your browser recording internet history, any information entered into forms, and cookies on your device.But it’s a mistake to believe that you’re actually incognito as this mode does nothing to block websites or internet services tracking you. The change to the disclaimer in the pre-release version of Chrome comes as Google agreed to settle a $5 billion class-action lawsuit accusing it of tracking Incognito users. The tweaked warning was spotted by the team at MSPowerUser, who stated that your activity might still be visible with icognito mode to: websites that you visit, your employer or school, your Internet service provider. It's been a rough week for Google Chrome, which is the most popular browser on the planet — accounting for over 60% of all internet traffic. Android's open-source ecosystem has led to an incredible diversity of manufacturers and vendors developing software that runs on a broad variety of hardware. This hardware requires supporting drivers, meaning that many different codebases carry the potential to compromise a significant segment of Android phones. There are recent public examples of third-party drivers containing serious vulnerabilities that are exploited on Android. While there exists a well-established body of public (and In-the-Wild) security research on Android GPU drivers, other chipset components may not be as frequently audited so this research sought to explore those drivers in greater detail. I've learned a new term: n-days Google: Android patch gap makes n-days as dangerous as zero-days An n-day vulnerability is one that is publicly known with or without a patch. For example, if a bug is known in Android before Google, it is called a zero-day. However, once Google learns about it, it becomes an n-day, with the n reflecting the number of days since it became publicly known. Google warns that attackers can use n-days to attack unpatched devices for months, using known exploitation methods or devising their own, despite a patch already being made available by Google or another vendor. This is caused by patch gaps, where Google or another vendor fixes a bug, but it takes months for a device manufacturer to roll it out in their own versions of Android. The problem stems from the complexity of the Android ecosystem, involving several steps between the upstream vendor (Google) and the downstream manufacturer (phone manufacturers), significant discrepancies in security update intervals between different device models, short support periods, responsibility mixups, and others issues. https://lnkd.in/eQJ9337B
