The new Global Resources Report has landed! This is the most comprehensive record of funding for LGBTI communities worldwide and a decade of data makes this report the most comprehensive and important to date. The headline is really heartening – a 56% increase in funding in 2021-22 for LGBTI issues in the Global South and East. A testament to the work of activists around the globe making the case for their work and achieving change. More needs to be done (global funding for LGBTI rights still represents only 39c in every $100 of foundation spending), but progress is being made. Like all reports, the devil is in the detail – this increase in funding is not equitable and growth is not always guaranteed. 61% of all funding continues to focus on the Global North and 60 countries saw reductions in the amount of funding they received. Strikingly, Southern Africa has seen almost no increase in the funding it receives since 2013. Just accounting for inflation, this is a significant real terms reduction in funding over the decade. Lots more to learn from this report and thanks to the amazing team behind it! Ezra Berkley Nepon, Jay Postic, David Scamell, Matthew Hart, Global Philanthropy Project, Inc.

The landscape of philanthropy is rapidly evolving, both in Canada and around the world. In recent years, attention has been given to feminist philanthropists for their approach of giving - including funding movements, providing general operating funds and utilizing the principles of trust-based philanthropy. In a recent TIME article, Melinda Gates shares her evolving thinking on philanthropic practices and what and who are influencing her thinking. Key takeaways include: - Focus on Gender Justice: Investments in women’s health, care economy, education, and economic opportunities. - Community Engagement: Meaningful, long-term collaboration with grassroots organizations to ensure funds reach those who need them most. - Redefining Success: Moving beyond traditional metrics of success to value holistic impact and social change. #FeministPhilanthropy #GenderEquity #Philanthropy #SocialChange #MelindaGates #Buffett #FordFoundation #Empowerment #InclusiveGiving

In the world of philanthropy, the ending or termination of a grant contract with a grantee partner often reverberates far beyond the immediate financial impact. Whether driven by the conclusion of a funding cycle, operational changes or shifts in strategic priorities, the loss of a funding relationship, even an anticipated one, can inadvertently destabilize the very movements funders aim to uplift. And alternative resources and support, especially in the funding environment today, are often hard to come by, especially for feminist, women’s and LGBTIQ+ rights as funding priorities change. FRIDA has crafted a transition strategy that aims to mitigate against this by being responsive to grantee partners’ unique journeys and quests for sustainability. Find out more in the link below

Given that "less than 2% of philanthropic giving" currently goes to women and girls, Thalia Beaty of The Associated Press rightly asks whether Melinda French Gates can move the needle on transformational philanthropic funding in support of gender equity. Ms. French Gates’ stunning recent commitment of $1 billion to support "women's equality" marks a potentially transformative shift in philanthropic giving, challenging the longstanding trend where under 2% of U.S. charitable donations go directly to organizations benefiting women and girls. Her pledge could inspire others to join her, possibly breaking the 2% ceiling and fostering a broader philanthropic movement toward gender equity. Yet, while a single large donation will make a significant difference, particularly for those organizations receiving support, effecting and sustaining longterm change requires far broader support and engagement. How might increased funding for women and girls be sustained, beyond individual commitments such as Ms. French Gates’? How, for instance, might individual and institutional funders come together and pool resources, in order to create lasting change? And how can we make sure that philanthropic efforts are more inclusive and address the unique needs of women and girls from diverse backgrounds, including those representing racial, ethnic, and Indigenous minorities, LGBTQ+ communities, the elderly, and those living with disabilities? Read Thalia Beaty's article below, and share your thoughts! #genderequity #trustbasedphilanthropy #womenandgirls #righttothrive https://lnkd.in/e_BwCjvZ

The data paints a powerful picture—when women and girls are empowered, entire communities benefit. It’s inspiring to see female philanthropists in the Arab region leading the charge in reshaping the narrative. From my own experience working in healthcare and entrepreneurship across emerging markets, I’ve seen firsthand how investing in women can drive sustainable growth. Women are often the cornerstone of communities, and when they thrive, they uplift everyone around them. Tapping into this potential isn’t just about fairness but smart, impactful philanthropy. The ripple effects of empowering women extend beyond gender equity, creating stronger, more resilient societies. Restructuring philanthropic boards and rethinking investment strategies isn’t just the right thing to do—it’s a necessity for long-term, inclusive prosperity. #Philanthropy #Equity #SustainableGrowth #WomenLeadership
New data from a study by the Pearl Initiative and the Zovighian Partnership finds that female philanthropists in the Arab Region show a clear pattern of giving to women and girls, charting a clear path to evening out the playing field. Tapping into this potential is key to unlocking regional growth and equitable prosperity. The data is clear. Gender equality multiplies sustainable growth and creates more inclusive prosperity. It is crucial that we see an increase in philanthropic giving move towards this goal. "By better understanding the barriers to funding women and girls, philanthropists, NGOs, governments, and communities alike can drive women-centered leadership and investment. Not only is restructuring philanthropic boards of family foundations, businesses, and public charities a morally responsible strategy, it is immeasurably harmful if organizations do not step up and transform." https://lnkd.in/d_r2fhSx Anissa Punjani Lynn Zovighian Ramzi Abou Ismail, Ph.D. #philanthropy #arabregion #genderequality #genderinclusion

On this Trans Day of Visibility, let's shine a light not only on the bravery and resilience of the trans community but also on the vital importance of funding trans-led organising around the world. Trans-led organisations play a crucial role in advocating for the rights and well-being of trans individuals everywhere. They provide essential support, resources, and advocacy, often in the face of immense challenges and obstacles. Despite the scale of the problems facing the trans community, the resources to support them are scarce. Even within a paucity of funding for LGBTQI organisations, trans organisations are the least funded; more than half of trans groups globally have annual budgets of less than £7,500. That's why it's imperative that we prioritise funding for trans-led initiatives, ensuring they have the resources they need to continue their vital work. Together, we can create a future where every trans person can live without fear or discrimination. Happy Trans Day of Visibility! #TransDayOfVisibility #TDOV #SupportTransOrganising #TransRightsAreHumanRights #Philanthropy #Fundraising
