Today, we recognize the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Davis+Gilbert remains committed to fighting against racism and discrimination in all forms. As a member of the Law Firm Antiracism Alliance (LFAA), Davis+Gilbert works to address systemic racism and promote racial equity in the law. On this date in 1960, Sharpeville, South Africa, experienced a day of tragedy when police fired on protesters at a peaceful anti-apartheid rally, leaving 69 lives lost. Today, we reflect on the ongoing pursuit of justice and equality with this year’s theme for the Day: “A Decade of Recognition, Justice, and Development: Implementation of the International Decade for People of African Descent.” Davis+Gilbert remains steadfast in our dedication to combating racial discrimination and encourage all to join us in the fight against racism. March 21 is the annual observance of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. RWI Synthetics invites you to recognize the injustices of racial discrimination and become an ally. For all of us, it takes intentionality and hard work to examine our own biases, conscious and unconscious, our language and behaviour, and the structural barriers in our communities and institutions that continue to confront Indigenous, Black and people of colour daily. As a Canadian Certified Aboriginal Business, we will continue to learn, inform and encourage progress towards a world where everyone has similar access to lead safe and successful lives. #RacialDiscrimination #RacialEquity #RacialJustice #RacialEquality #EliminateDiscrimination

For an organization, what does combatting anti-Black racism look like? A few weeks ago, I had the honour of returning to ASP Incorporated as a guest speaker for their annual Black History Month Roundtable, where we discussed the positive strides and necessary continued work toward supporting Black Canadians, as well as the importance of embedding anti-racist practice within organizations and our society at large. ❗ COMBATTING ANTI-BLACK RACISM IS SO MUCH MORE THAN ADDRESSING "A FEW BAD APPLES". 💡 It's building a culture, a structure, and a norm that opposes the systemic and institutionalized oppression of Black folk in this country. 💡 It creates an environment that ceases the endorsement and platforming of these "bad apples" in the first place and endorses Black voices instead. 💡 It requires addressing the ways anti-Black racism shows up within ourselves and having the willingness and ability to have those hard conversations. 💡 It is understanding that #equality cannot be achieved with complacency, silence, or symbolic gestures - we require action. To put it simply, it requires MORE. 🇨🇦 In an industry dedicated to public #safety and #security, working with organizations that understand the imperative of embedding anti-racist principles is integral to ensuring the safety of all members of the public, particularly those impacted by systemic anti-black racism in this country. Thank you Sarah N. and the ASP team for inviting me to build on this conversation around your anti-racism initiatives at ASP Incorporated, and leading this commitment to building a more #inclusive organization each and every day. #morethanamonth #antiracism #bhm2024
Anti-racism starts with recognizing the depth of systemic racism. Consider that equality was only constitutionally guaranteed for all Canadians in 1982. For a deeper understanding of racism's system nature, read Government of Canada's Black Justice Strategy https://lnkd.in/eH6sEtYn. As we reflect on these insights, we are committed to leading the industry by fostering a culture of steadfast inclusion and excellence. #antiracism #inclusiveleadership #securitymatters #canadasblackjusticestrategy #aspsecurity

"Celebrating Diversity: International Day for the Elimination of Racism" Today marks the International Day for the Elimination of Racism and Racial Discrimination, established to promote awareness and understanding of racial discrimination and encourage action to combat racism in all its forms. 💡 Nelson Mandela's poignant words remind us that racism is learned, not inherent, and that love comes more naturally to the human heart. As Alveda King aptly said, racism springs from the lie that certain human beings are less than fully human, perpetuating injustice and division in our communities. 🙌 On this day, let's reaffirm our commitment to creating a world free from racism and discrimination by educating ourselves, challenging prejudice, and promoting inclusion and diversity. Together, we can build a future where every individual is treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their race or background. 🎯 The 2024 theme of the International Day highlights the ongoing struggle against racial discrimination, particularly affecting people of African descent, and emphasizes the need for recognition, justice, and development. While progress has been made, racism persists worldwide, underscoring the importance of continued efforts to combat discrimination and promote equality for all. 🥁 In conclusion, let's swap words for actions. Start by educating yourself. Polish speakers, grab "On Hate Speech" book by Humanity in Action Poland for a deep dive into biases, stereotypes, and prejudices. Learn how to combat human rights violations effectively. Empower yourself to be a stronger ally in the fight against discrimination and injustice. #EliminateRacism #EndRacialDiscrimination #DiversityAndInclusion #Equality #HumanityInAction

The 2024 theme of the International Day is “A Decade of Recognition, Justice, and Development: Implementation of the International Decade for People of African Descent”. Racial discrimination and the legacies of slavery and colonialism continue to destroy lives and curtail opportunities, preventing billions of people from enjoying their full human rights and freedoms. This year’s theme is linked to the International Decade for People of African Descent, which spans the timeframe from 2015 to 2024. In proclaiming this Decade, the international community is recognizing that people of African descent represent a distinct group, whose human rights must be promoted and protected. Around 200 million people identifying themselves as being of African descent live in the Americas. Many millions more live in other parts of the world, outside of the African continent. Racist laws and practices have been abolished in many countries, and UN have built an international framework for fighting racism, guided by the International Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Learn, Speak up, Act! Raise awareness and gain support for global action on racism, discrimination, xenophobia and other intolerances.
