We all have different and varying sensitivities to what we might consider a nice or stinky smell. It is a response that is personal and individual. On a construction, development or land remediation project, when is an odour just a background smell, and when does it become an irritant and nuisance that can affect the health and well-being of neighbours and those nearby? How do we go about measuring, managing and mitigating something that may result in varying personal responses. How is an odour linked to health response, and how to we go about measuring the more intangible potential health impacts from stress, anxiety and concern? The CIRIA guidance below looks to address these issues in their good practice guide for brownfield sites. An opportunity to get involved if you have an interest.
