Today marks a significant milestone for AITPM as our members have overwhelmingly voted for a series of constitutional changes aimed at enhancing our governance structure. With a resounding 91.6% approval rate, these amendments reflect our collective commitment to evolve and adapt in service of our vision and strategic goals. The restructuring of the board to include five member-elected directors, representing each region, and the provision to appoint up to four additional directors, ensures a dynamic and skilled leadership. This change is designed to bolster our governance with diverse perspectives and expertise. Furthermore, the extension of the elected directors' term to three years and the relaxation of eligibility criteria for directorship are strategic moves to foster a robust and visionary board. The establishment of a Board Nominations Committee to manage the election and appointment process is another step towards transparent and effective governance. These changes are more than procedural; they are a reflection of our dedication to better represent and serve our members. As we implement these improvements, we are poised to navigate the future with confidence and a strengthened sense of purpose. APA member colleagues: Our association is proposing changes to its bylaws that will substantially change composition of the Board of Directors, the way members elect the Board of Directors, changes to committees and task forces, removal of officers, and procedures to change bylaws in the future, and other items. Member comments on these changes are due by 14 December, should be sent to getinvolved@planning.org, and should include the APA member's name and member ID, Bylaws reference number (e.g., section x.x) and a concise statement specific to the proposed amendment. Members can find the proposed changes and other information, including a link to a video of a town hall meeting on the changes, here: https://lnkd.in/gN8xVp2M I believe it is worth your effort to engage this process during the short time left if you have not already. The proposed changes substantially alter the nature of APA's leadership selection processes and power relationships. We need to make such changes with the broadest member input.

❗ ❗ Hello everyone! Important Update! ❗ ❗ The Ohio-Kentucky Affiliate is moving to a slated board selection process. Having a diverse, competency-based board is important to the Ohio-Kentucky AMCP Affiliate. For that reason, the Board has made the decision to follow AMCP in changing our board selection process from a traditional election selection process to a slated process with a way for the membership to challenge the slate via a petition process. This methodology has become increasingly prevalent in associations, with several associations migrating to this process over the last decade. Research has shown the best approach to ensuring an aligned and diverse Board composition is to implement a deliberate, in-depth process for candidate evaluation and selection that removes the popularity element of a contested election. AMCP is currently wrapping up its first election cycle with this new process. Ohio-Kentucky AMCP Affiliate will be selecting a Leadership Development Committee to assist in finalizing the application, board competencies, and final selection of the slate. Stay tuned for more info!
