On August 23, VOP Nováky officially opened a new filling line for large-calibre ammunition. The ceremony was attended by the Slovak Minister of Defence, Robert Kaliňák, and Michal Strnad, owner of the Czechoslovak Group, which operates VOP Nováky through its subsidiary, MSM GROUP. The new facility, featuring a state-of-the-art automatic feeding system known as a “screw machine,” will initially be used to fill 122 mm and 120 mm ammunition for tanks and mortars. This development significantly enhances the filling capabilities of VOP Nováky, a key player in the European ammunition industry. Since leasing the facility from the Slovak Ministry of Defence in 2013, the Czechoslovak Group has invested EUR 15 million into VOP Nováky, including the installation of advanced robotic production lines and a physico-chemical laboratory. CEO Zuzana Helbichová noted that the latest investment further solidifies the company’s standing as a strategic manufacturer within the European Union and NATO. At Eurosatory exhibition in Paris, Rheinmetall presented the first-ever solution for a vertically launch smoke protection system – the ROSY_VL Rapid Obscuring System Vertical Launch. Ten smoke grenades fired from the unit create a smoke shield above the vehicle. This quickly and effectively interrupts the line of sight in both the visible and IR spectral range. Hence, ROSY is the one of the world's first proven obscuring system against top-attack-assaults from drones and anti-tank missiles. Using the ROSY smoke launcher already in service on many vehicles, this new launcher/dispenser unit can be used to create a hemispherical shield. Rheinmetall's 40 mm Rapid Obscuring System is available in various customer specific configurations for numerous applications. It offers unique protection for military and civilian vehicles against unexpected attacks. >>India needs to move out of the mind-set of looking for 'super weapons' and should instead look at understanding better how modern warfare is conducted based on the lessons emerging from the Ukraine conflict. The persistent messaging coming out of the mainstream media of the collective West about super weapons that would turn the tide of war have now lost credibility, even among their most fervent supporters. The western tanks including German Leopards, US Abrams, UK Challengers, and various armored fighting vehicles have all been decimated in combat, and to the acute discomfort of the collective West, captured pieces displayed in Moscow. >>Modern warfare is a multi-modal and multi-dimensional operation, involving the integration of satellite surveillance, drone surveillance, handheld devices operated by soldiers, 'intelligent' weapons and ammunition. This matrix operates as a seamless whole, and the Russians have displayed a remarkable capacity to adjust and change according to the needs of the situation on the ground. No one element of this complex system can decide the outcome. The entire system needs to work together. >>And then there is the matter of military strategy and doctrine. It is in this dimension that Russia appears to be superior, and they have understood the nature of warfare, especially of its industrial nature. What the collective West calls attrition is an inadequate description of what is at work, which is based on clear objectives, aligning strategy and tactics to those objectives, and unremitting and diligent pursuit of that strategy. All this happens with a feedback mechanism that enables field commanders to adjust to new developments swiftly, without allowing the basic strategy to be affected. >>India needs to embed its self-reliance approach into such an over-arching military doctrine based on India's military environment and border issues and should not be swayed by what others are doing. The key factors here are not whether a weapon system is 'super-duper', or the 'latest', but whether it is proven and reliable under battlefield conditions, whether the supplier is reliable and can be depended upon not to desert us when needed, and whether India has the capacity to support and maintain these systems. And, contrary to Hollywood mythology of Rambo and GI Joe, who effortlessly mow down hundreds of enemies while remaining immune to bullets and shells, 'God is with the big battalions', and especially with those who are able to supply their troops with the weapons and ammunition they need, where needed, and in the quantities needed.
