The Defense Department has been rethinking its pursuit of Combined Joint All-Domain Command and Control, or CJADC2, to take a more targeted approach. It’s a shift from trying to connect everything to focusing on the most urgent operational problems, with a primary aim to connect forces across domains. The DoD Chief Information Officer has released The One Document ( 💍 ) to Rule Them All… Fulcrum: The DoD IT Advancement Strategy unifies 13 documents (yes, I counted) from across the United States Department of Defense into one cohesive strategy to inform the path forward to modernize the DoD’s IT infrastructure 🙌 This is the sort of forward momentum that active duty and external partners like us have been waiting for! Here’s what you need to know according to the  🦄s who nerded out on this whole document in the last 48 hours: ✨ Cloud-native applications that can also be deployed into DDIL environments are the future (I happen to know an axolotl named Zarf, who was just contributed to OpenSSF, and does exactly that 😉) ✨ Interoperability with mission partners and existing United States Department of Defense systems are essential. ✨ The joint warfighter needs rapidly deployable software that will scale horizontally, so no more reconfiguration of the same apps over and over.
