The resulting water damage impacted five floors, affecting drywall and flooring extensively. Initially, the building owner took on the mitigation efforts alone. However, the scale of the disaster demanded expert intervention. Why is Building Control being forgotten?! The government is allocating funds for more planning officers, but what about building control officers? As a longstanding LABC partner for over 12 years, I've witnessed the importance of working with BC Officers firsthand. Recently, my trusted allocated BC Officer faced setbacks, losing 2 newly trained staff members. This has led to delays in projects, like an accommodation POD's project I'm involved in, which would have been postponed until September. The need to engage a private firm, less familiar with #mmc, will inevitably slow down progress as we navigate the educational process with the new officer; however at least we can start now! While quick planning approvals are beneficial, the current BC regulations and safety act demand attention. Without ample support on the ground, construction risks stalling even further!
