🧠 Struggling with our mental health makes it difficult to reach out to our communities for help. This Mental Health Awareness Week, we want to spotlight the research of Associate Member Vatsal Khandelwal who's paper 'Silent Networks: The Role of Inaccurate Beliefs in Reducing Useful Social Interactions' investigates how misperceptions about social norms influence access to vital support networks. The paper highlights the critical importance of dispelling misconceptions regarding the community's readiness to offer assistance among low-income urban workers in India. It demonstrates how rectifying these misconceptions can increase the willingness to seek aid for both financial and mental health challenges. Clinging to these misconceptions creates 'silent networks,' wherein individuals' needs go unaddressed, undermining effective support systems. Congratulations Vatsal for the great work
