Accounting is a discipline that is guided by GAAP. Some team members may come up with a different solution based on desired impact to bottom line, but in the end all the results must conform to GAAP.

Die #1 Herausforderungen beim Aufbau eines Finance-Teams. 🦄 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞-𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐧 🦄 Als Finance Lead habe ich in der Vergangenheit immer wieder die gleiche Frage von Gründern bekommen: 𝑾𝒊𝒆 𝒔𝒊𝒆𝒉𝒕 𝒆𝒊𝒏 𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒏ü𝒏𝒇𝒕𝒊𝒈𝒆𝒔 𝑭𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆-𝑻𝒆𝒂𝒎-𝑺𝒆𝒕𝒖𝒑 𝒂𝒖𝒔? Im Kern geht es um folgende Fragen: ❓Wie schaffe ich es die Finance-Funktion kosteneffizient zu gestalten? ❓Welches Profil hire ich als erstes? ❓Wie leite ich das Team fachlich an? ❓Wie groß muss das Team sein? Das Anforderungsprofil eines ersten Finance-Hires ist so breit, wie bei wenig anderen Positionen: ▶️ 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐯𝐨𝐧 𝐊𝐏𝐈𝐬, 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 ▶️ 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠-𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭ä𝐧𝐝𝐧𝐢𝐬, 𝐮𝐦 𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐮𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐳𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐮𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐳𝐮 𝐤ö𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐧 ▶️ 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐚𝐮𝐟 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐳𝐞𝐧 𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐳𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐮𝐧𝐠 ▶️ 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐧, 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐳𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐢𝐞 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐰𝐚𝐡𝐥 𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐭𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧 𝐓𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬 𝐢𝐦 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞-𝐁𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐜𝐡 ▶️ 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦 𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐢𝐭 𝐦ö𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐠 𝐀𝐧𝐥𝐞𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐯𝐨𝐦 𝐆𝐫ü𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 Zusätzlich soll kein großes Team aufgebaut werden aber die fachlich Anleitung eines Junior Finance Managers ist häufig mehr Aufwand als im ersten Moment gedacht. Auf der anderen Seite kommt ein Head of Finance selten alleine. Der erste Finance-Hire ist also ein Hybrid aus Buchhalter, Controller, CFO und am besten noch Strategy Consultant/Investment Banker. Wheels Up, the private aviation company, has announced the resignation of its Chief Financial Officer, Todd Smith, effective September 6, 2024. Smith, recognized as the architect behind Wheels Up’s recent financial turnaround, leaves the company as it reports a 4% drop in stock value following the announcement. For the second quarter of 2024, Wheels Up reported flat revenue of $196 million, with an 8% increase in flight service revenue to $163.6 million. The company also highlighted progress in cost management and operational efficiency, despite declines in membership and aircraft management services. Eric Cabezas, currently Senior Vice President of Finance, will step in as interim CFO while the company searches for a permanent replacement. Additionally, the board has appointed Alex Chatkewitz as Principal Accounting Officer, effective upon Smith’s departure. The company also announced the resignation of Chief Legal Officer, Laura Heltebran, effective the same day, with a separation agreement that includes a severance package. In the following interview, Franco Lee, the Finance Director of Ennoconn HU, shares his experiences about developing a new financial department and introducing financial processes. 1. How did you envision this new finance department contributing to the company's overall financial strategy and goals? Our main focus is to align to Ennoconn’s global reporting with data quality and accuracy as priority. Additionally, we seek to collaborate on technological advancements and drive transformation within the organization. 2. Can you provide some insight into the creation and operation of this new finance department? We are responsible for overseeing budgeting, accounting, financial forecasting, and analyzing financial data. We play a strategic role in providing guidance for financial plans, coordinate between departments and external partners – i.e.: suppliers, tax authorities – and support to maintain a healthy cash flow. 3. What professional and personal challenges did you face during the introduction of financial processes? Throughout the process of building our team, we faced several challenges including recruiting, insourcing tasks and developing team collaboration. We are grateful for the support from various departments, as we would not be where we are today without them. There are still plenty of challenges ahead, but we are ready to overcome these.
