It’s Women’s Equality Day! We love how women-positive Madison has long been and how the progress is always moving forward. From “Forward” herself (the statue at the foot of the State Capitol and the state’s motto) to the brand-new statue honoring Vel Phillips, Madison has a long tradition of honoring women and progress: 👏 Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway only the second woman to become (and the first out lesbian) to be elected as mayor of City of Madison, WI . 👏 Women-owned businesses are around every corner here, from breweries to restaurants and retail shops to lodging properties and more. 👏 There have been major, international companies founded and run by women here, including Epic and American Girl . 👏 Madison has long been growing as a women’s sports destination, from our Wisconsin Athletics programs to the newly debuted pro softball and volleyball leagues. And here at Destination Madison , we can’t wait to see what’s coming next. Drop a comment with your favorite women-owned business or feature female story! https://lnkd.in/gejJ-rzj #destinationmadison #madisonwisconsin #womensequality

#RaceEqualityWeek #ListenActChange #MyNameIs #ED&I #CairnforLife #RaceEqualityMatters Race Equality Week is a yearly UK-wide movement that runs between 5th to 11th February 2024. It aims to unite hundreds of thousands of organisations and individuals to address the barriers to race equality in the workplace. The initiative was inspired by the events of 2020, including the Black Lives Matter movement and the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on ethnic minority communities. The theme for Race Equality Week 2024 is #ListenActChange. We are kicking off this week with the #MyNameIs campaign. The #MyNameIs campaign is an initiative launched by the Race Equality Network to promote inclusivity by highlighting individuality. The campaign encourages people to spell their name phonetically to help others pronounce their names properly. Many of us have had our names mispronounced at work, and this can make people feel like they don’t belong and are not important. Therefore, the aim of this activity is to ensure that we get people’s names correct, which in turn, which creates the opportunity for people to feel wanted, respected, and have a sense of belonging at work.

Kansas City Chiefs - care to comment? 🎤 Harrison Butker of the Kansas City chiefs addressed women at a 𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙜𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙘𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙮 and told them their “vocation” was home making. Not to mention also denouncing Pride Month amongst things he stands against. I think many people could be quick to dismiss this as a fringe statement but the reality is, this is someone who is a key player of a Super Bowl champion team with a huge platform and his words will be far reaching. As a reminder: 👉🏼 42% of women report facing discrimination at work 👉🏼 Only 25% of C-Suite roles are held by women 👉🏼 Women make up 51% of the college-educated workforce aged 25 and older We have a far way to go from equality for more than half of the workforce. The problem isn’t the concept of women as home makers (this is a wonderful path and should be respected in the same way a careeer path should be). The problem is that in an age where women’s (and all underrepresented) rights are being rolled back 𝘣𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘺, influential figures promoting such limiting rhetoric is not only offensive but deeply harmful.

This table excludes women....on purpose. It's from the Garrick Club in London. I've been reading about this club all week, and naively was surprised. Surprised that this sort of elitist " boy's club", still existed. That it was a thing. And yet here we are. It very much is Some of the most powerful men in the UK belong to this club, which excludes female membership as part of its DNA It's also almost exclusively white. In a way, it's a metaphor for why people from under- represented groups and communities fight for inclusion, because they literally aren't included. Look, I've spent most of my life, and still do tbh, looking from the outside - in. In having to figure out how to navigate around these sorts of exclusive " boys clubs" where you gain all that social capital and connections. I've managed it, but I know that it's been tough This sort of boys club has no place in a society that has the rich diversity we have and in 2024, has an active position which says women aren't welcome. That is truly unforgivable. Anyone that is part of this club, and many names have been mentioned, what does that act say about their real position on Inclusion and gender equity? Until the type of table in this picture gives seats to women and everyone, regardless of class, gender or creed... ...then we'll be a poorer society for it. As you can guess, I'm not a member. And never will be. #WeRiseByLiftingEachOther #Inclusion

Cooperatives, along with employee ownership and other 'beyond profit' structures, are at the heart of the Restoration of our corporate world. Imagine even turning the corporate structure of every country into an employee owned co-operative. Now that's some divine thinking! #weareenough #thereisenough #comeontherestoration
“Scotland has a rich tradition of radical women agitating for social change: equal rights, votes for women. But the history is in danger of getting lost” says media co-op’s Vilte Vaitkute. “It’s been a real honour and huge fun for media co-op to collaborate with local women activists, to rescue this inspiring history of the co-op movement, and put it on screen. Being nominated for this award is the icing on the cake. We’re asking everyone we know to watch and vote, vote, vote.” Please vote for our 2-minute film on women's rights and co-operative history https://lnkd.in/eyXfqsM3 Engender Scotland Close the Gap Zero Tolerance Scotland Cooperatives UK Paisley Museum & Art Gallery OneRen SCVO (Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations) National Library of Scotland Scotmid Co-operative Refuge

To highlight the International Women's Day theme, Inclusive Employers are supporting organisations to #InspireInclusion of Black women in sport. Senior Inclusion and Diversity Consultant Zoiey Smale shares her lived experience as a Black girl playing sport in the below blog and highlights what we can all do to shift perceptions and show allyship to Black women to help make sport and physical activity more inclusive for all women and girls. England Netball is committed to ensuring netball is an inclusive sport and improving diversity at all levels, and has undertaken a programme to listen to our membership and learn about the experiences within our sport. Using all the insight gathered, every department is contributing to the development and delivery of our Dedicated 2 Difference Action Plan which will help us drive an anti-racist culture through an equitable approach. We will continue to educate ourselves and our Netball Family about the impact of direct and indirect racism and how we can all be more proactive to increase the sense of inclusion and belonging and continue to strive for race equality. Our action plan will also help us to remove barriers to access our sport and actively celebrate diversity. #IWD2024 #Inclusion #Sport #PhysicalActivity

Promoting allyship in the workplace to ensure everyone feels seen, heard, and belongs | Forbes Contributor
White women are in a unique position to support women of color. There is a shared experience from a gender perspective, yet there's a disconnect in the lived experience from a race perspective. To avoid the "Karen" stereotype, white women can be better allies by: 👩👧👧 Diversifying networks beyond people like you. 👔 Having conversations with white men in power to influence them to get involved as allies. 👀 Amplifying the voices of women of color through mentoring, sponsoring and advocacy. #blackhistorymonth #diversityandinclusion #allyship

So many practical recommendations in this Forbes article. Here is one that resonated with me. "Amplify the Voices of Women of Color Through Mentoring, Sponsoring and Advocacy" "Amplification is one of the most powerful allyship actions. Amplification is about supporting and sharing content and ideas from marginalized communities with the dominant group. Because white women likely have more access to power than women of color, sharing messages and content can be powerful tactics to engage the dominant group. Mentoring and sponsoring are also important for allies to do. Think about who you spend time with as a mentor, who your proteges are and who is sponsoring you; chances are there's affinity bias at work in these relationships. Think about how you could diversify these roles more."
