🌟 Exciting News from HSBC's Generations Week! 🌟 Recently, HSBC embarked on a fantastic initiative called "Generations Week," and I had the privilege to be a part of it. This groundbreaking event encouraged open conversations about generational diversity in the workplace, including exploring how different generations define their sense of purpose. As the founder and CEO of XYZatWork I had the honor of kicking off Generations Week with a masterclass on “Thriving in the Multigenerational Workplace”, and by providing a bespoke guide to help all HSBC leaders start the conversation. This is crucial as we acknowledge that generational diversity is essential for our diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. In this insightful article published by HRD magazine Sue Anne Tay, managing director, chief of staff Greater China, and I dive deeper into the importance of generational diversity in the workplace The key takeaway? Understanding and embracing generational differences is a superpower for organizations. It's a competitive advantage that strengthens teams, sparks innovation, and fosters creativity. We're proud to introduce 'Allies for Inclusion' - a campaign to create awareness on allyship and add to a growing community of allies that help champion and drive an equitable and inclusive culture.   To kick off the message, we asked Pushkaraj Gumaste, Head of Corporate Banking for Asia Pacific & Middle East, Executive Sponsor - Win APAC ERG, to tell us what allyship means to him. Here's what he had to say.   "Allyship means respect, being valued and included. Essentially, how do I stand up or speak up for what is right and empower others. In the workplace, what role can each of us play as individuals to support the growth of our colleagues to level the playing field. Research has shown that a diverse workplace leads to diversity of thought, which in turn leads to better business outcomes.   Allyship has been integral in both my professional and personal journeys - Throughout my career I have had good bosses and helpful colleagues who consistently challenge me to bring the best version of myself to the workplace each and every single day.   Being a good Ally and promoting gender diversity is a challenge and sympathising with the issue is not enough. I call on all of you to act – See it, Own it, Fix it. If you believe that something is not right, act on it. If my doctor tells me to lose weight, I will do it. Despite possessing some of the most sought-after skills in today's workplace, neurodivergent individuals still face stigmas stemming from misconceptions and stereotypes. That's why events like this are crucial in transforming how we perceive and support neurodivergent people. Being asked to share my perspective on inspiring inclusion, particularly as a woman in the realms of financial services and international business, has given me a moment of reflection. In the spirit of #internationalwomensday2024, witnessing various communities come together is heartening, and I was delighted to share my thoughts alongside my peers at Currencies Direct and Redpin 👯♀️ For me, inspiring inclusion isn’t just a goal; it’s a commitment to fostering a workplace where every individual, regardless of gender, feels empowered to embrace their unique journey. In my career, I’ve learned the power of staying true to myself and overcoming imposter syndrome. As a woman in a male-dominated industry, I’ve faced misconceptions, but I’ve found strength in authenticity. My advice? Don’t compete, collaborate. Focus on breaking barriers, not limitations. And always remember, in the tapestry of diversity, kindness and empathy are the threads that weave lasting success and inspire true inclusion. How can we create workplaces where people feel comfortable, valued and appreciated for what they bring to the table – not in spite of their differences, but including their differences? Talking is the first step to busting myths and breaking down stigmas; made even more powerful when done in collaboration with clients and local NGOs. Today, I moderated a fantastic discussion, along with my colleague Sanjeev Chatrath, on ‘Accessibility and Inclusion in Financial Services’. We were joined by our wonderful speakers, Kylie McGavin, APAC Head of Inclusion, HSBC, Jeff Rotmeyer, Founder ImpactHK and Love21, Kaleem Rizvi, Managing Director, Head-Corporate Banking, Asia North & Australia, Citi and Tomoko Nyunoya, Co-Chair Enable Network, Morgan Stanley, Japan. My key takeaway was how our employee resource groups, through their events, campaigns and actions, are potent catalysts for change and the need to maximize their impact. By harnessing the ‘power of all’ we can create more awareness and understanding of people with disabilities and build organizations and society where everyone can flourish without obstacles. What a fantastic morning 👌🏼! We - the members of the Champions of Change Club - got invited to a working breakfast by Olga Leonowicz and His Excellency US Ambassador Mark Brzezinski 🇺🇸 to share the best practices in the area of #DEI 🌈. Behind this initiative were Olga Kozierowska and Anna Flis who have been doing an amazing job ✌🏼 in passionately supporting Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in the corporate universe in Poland 🇵🇱. I had an opportunity to present some of concrete achievements, activities and initiatives in BNP Paribas Bank Polska. In our bank we treat diversity very seriously and that is why, since January 1, 37.5% of the Management Board and 42% of the Board of Directors are women. Last year, to the four existing employee networks, two new ones were added. They support people with disabilities and neurodiverse colleagues. Personally, I am very proud that our employees have the courage and willingness to act and to make changes that will make their professional life easier 👍🏼. I would not be honest if I did not mention the challenges that we face. Activation of people with disabilities is still a sphere where we have to be more active and definitely do more! I am modestly happy that the employment rate of people with disabilities in our bank is constantly rising, though 😊. Supporting and implementing DEI in an organisation is a process. It requires genuine firm commitment of senior leadership. We have to be consistent in our actions, but also patient. We did a lot, but we are humble and know that there is still more to be done 📈. Last but not least, DEI is mostly about our people. Business leaders have to listen to them and empower them to drive changes!
