BNP Paribas Agrees to Buy HSBC Unit in German Wealth Push Acquisition: BNP Paribas SA, a French bank, is buying HSBC Holdings Plc's private banking operations in Germany. Growth strategy: This acquisition is part of BNP Paribas' strategy to expand its presence in the German wealth management market. Increased assets: The deal will increase BNP Paribas' assets under management in its German wealth management business to over €40 billion ($44.6 billion). Market context: Germany is seeing growing demand for wealth management services, largely driven by its many family-owned businesses. Deutsche Bank expect a €430 million to its third quarter results due to progress in setting the Postbank AG litigation. - The problem began when Deutsche Bank acquired Postbank in 2010 and offered €25 per share. Claimants argue the offer should have been €57.25, the stock price when Deutsche Bank first invested in 2008. - Some investors are demanding compensation of up to €64.25 per share. Recently, a lawyer for a group of former shareholders rejected an offer of €36.50 per share. - To address the issue, Deutsche Bank has settled with over 80 plaintiffs, covering nearly 60% of the total claims, at €31 per Postbank share. - These settlements led to a €430 million boost in Deutsche Bank’s third-quarter results, suggesting potential for returning more capital to shareholders in late 2024 to early 2025, although the bank is expected to be cautious with buybacks for now. #jakartacorporatefinancegroup

Abstract: In May 2024, ABN AMRO Bank NV (ABN AMRO) announced the acquisition of Hauck Aufhäuser Lampe (HAL), a prestigious German private bank, from Fosun International Group for EUR672 million. This acquisition, slated to finalise in Q1 2025 (pending regulatory approval), aimed to significantly enhance ABN AMRO's footprint in Northwest Europe, particularly Germany, which became its second-largest market. HAL, established in 1796, offered extensive private banking, asset management, and capital market services. The acquisition expanded ABN AMRO's assets under management to EUR70 billion, reinforcing its wealth management and corporate banking operations under the Bethmann Bank brand (its German business unit). Arbuthnot Latham Banking Group’s 2023 results have seen the successful delivery of strategy resulting in wider margin and profit growth, with ABG's relationship-driven approach leading to increased customer deposits.    This has also coincided with a rising rate environment.
