Very insightful article! I have few queries though. 1) Demanding Safe and Healthy food, does it mean preferring organically produced food? 2) If so, affordability of organically produced food is limited to only higher income individuals. 3) middle class society will be a BIG change driver but it is more price sensitive… Can someone through some light on the above with their POV.

Well said! Farmers grow what kind of food we consumers vote for with our money. There is no escaping from the responsibility of making our demand and purchase speak for what produce needs supporting. Given that processed food industries are also major consumers, it would help to lobby for and demand by citizens the rules that require more info on ingredients and health grading to be displayed. Now, this author is talking about the role of the market! That’s a good news. Yes, increased consumer demand for chemical free produce will help promote growth if two important prerequisites happen. .1 Reliable or Trustworthy systems for certification of organic produce and 2. Market Segmentation of organic produce. The price for organic produce could be almost twice than that for the nonorganic produce. It is questionable if there will b to e adequate demand for organic produce at that price. It is doubtful if that demand will increase as is expected!

Go for Natural Food. Why allow others to add Poison to your Food?

Today, most of the products are supply driven. Big F&B companies like Coke, Pepsi, Nestle etc are not selling what consumers need. Rather, “want” is created for these high calories food which otherwise would not create any demand. The public in general gives least priority to food the are eating. Yes, organic food or natural food will find its place with some increase in demand but will not be leading the market. Supplements, Superfoods, convenient food, Ready to cook and ready to eat foods will be pushed by big corporates and will drive the market.

It is now the responsibility of each of the value chain stakeholders to align with the consumer expectations.
