Department of Health and Social Care’s Post

🔬 Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Rt. Hon. Wes Streeting MP met with Peter Kyle, Secretary of State at the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, to discuss collaborative efforts in making Britain a powerhouse for life sciences and medical technology.   Following the ordering of a full and independent investigation into the state of the NHS, the Health Secretary is committed to quickly addressing key findings and driving innovation in the sector.   Plans include a streamlined procurement process, designed to create a clearer route into the NHS for life saving medical technology, coupled with incentives to foster innovation and prioritise regulatory approvals for new devices and medicines.   Britain’s world-class life sciences sector, leading university system and unique NHS datasets put us in a good position to adopt and advance new technologies.

This is interesting but the Transformation of NHS England by the Conservative government was to align policy, governance and Digital into 1 therefore breaking down the path to live for technology, again this is nothing new. What is Labour going to do about staff retention and attraction? Trusts do not always need medical technology, they need standardised ,automated processes in their back office functions using technology already paid for and provided centrally, where is the promise of a digitally capable and properly trained workforce which then frees up those precious staff to do the important roles? The government needs to pivot from the NHS is broken to the NHS needs support to thrive with its current workforce and a focus on how to grow and up skill that workforce in the future.

Governments have a unique position to influence and accelerate progress in the life sciences and medical technology sectors. Providing financial support for startups, universities, and research institutions to speed up innovation. Streamlining approval processes to reduce time and costs for bringing new medical devices and treatments to market. Facilitating collaborations between public and private sectors to share resources and expertise, driving innovative solutions. Developing advanced research facilities and innovation hubs to provide the necessary environment for scientific breakthroughs. And ensuring supporting companies in entering international markets to ensure innovations reach patients worldwide. By implementing these and other plans, governments can enhance healthcare outcomes, drive economic growth, and improve quality of life.

Procurement Incentives / Reimbursement Regulation Mention of the three biggest barriers for most SMEs at the moment. Thank you for putting plans in place and I will be waiting impatiently to hear the outcomes! 🙏

This is encouraging. I hope to see this repeated in partnership with the Depts of Health in devolved nations, to ensure opportunites are harnessed and investment is spread more evenly.

NHS, NHS NHS Time to change the narrative Rt. Hon. Wes Streeting MP When will you start a "a full and independent investigation into the state of" COMMUNITY HEALTH & SOCIAL CARE? Afterall, PREVENTION is better than a CURE There are enough smart people in Government and in the care sector to tell you the statistics and data better than me BUT it is clear, and has ALWAYS been the case that the health and nutrition of the public is more effectively improved through education and community initiatives, leading to LESS DEMAND on hospitals... Always happy to share a conversation if the Minister thinks it might help :)

Still nothing about prevention then🙄

I struggle to understand some of the comments written here in response to this post. This is not a party political issue, nor an opportunity for scoring points, but a clear intent by the inoming team that is to be celebrated (and now we have to all work to make sure it succeeds). The O'Shaughnessy report from the last government gave some clear pointers and was a beacon of light in a sea of darkness at the time, but the dysfunction that overwhelmed the government did not exactly help in implementing its recommendations. I hope that the new team will take the good from that (there is a lot that is good) and build on it, and quickly. The opportunity is there and it is one of the few areas of policy where everyone gains if it is successful - the economy, pharma, clinicians and hospital centres and, last but certainly not least, patients.

I don't have the right words to express my views but trying to put the attention of current Honourable Health Secretary and new government to look at the critical situation faced by the health care immigrants and will train them to get fit themselves into the standard parameters set up by NHS for the welbeing and betterment of people inneed. Otherwise a critical situation will be faced by the immigrants as they've left and burnt everything they've in the past in their respective countries.  I will request the honorable Health Secretary to make positive use of the immigrants by offering training with or without minimum cost for the betterment of the society and people inneed in health care sector and other required areas of UK where immigrants may play a good role to serve the people of Great Britain. Thank you.
