To wrap up Pride Month, I just want to remind everyone that members of the LGBTQ+ community tend to have very different experiences with the US healthcare system than non-community members. Not only is access more difficult, they also tend to have more negative experiences with providers. If you're a provider, consider how you can make your practice more LGBTQ+ friendly! Educate yourself and staff on different genders, sexualities, and terminology, customize your intake forms, create a visually welcoming environment (E.G. putting out LGBTQ+ health brochures), and avoid making assumptions. Everyone makes mistakes. Don't aim for perfection—aim for growth and learning!
