As my fellowship with the U.S. Green Building Council and LEED for Cities team comes to an end, I am happy to share the Equity Guide I have been working on throughout the year. This document is primarily intended for local governments engaging with the unique equity concerns in their jurisdiction in combination with their fight against climate change. For local governments involved in LEED for Cities certification, this guide can be used as a tool alongside the process of certification and post-certification action/implementation. For those not yet involved with LEED for Cities, this guide can be used as a framework for municipal equitable climate action plans. Centering equity in sustainability sets the standard that every action and goal can and should consider equitable outcomes. This standard results in a just distribution of resources to protect all communities from climate-related hazards.
