As Danish research funds dwindle, the EU increases its support for architecture and construction - e.g. through the initiative, New European Bauhaus (NEB). And this means a lot 🤝
🗨 "Institutions such as the Det Kongelige Akademi | the Royal Danish Academy bring home more and more money from the EU, and it is largely EU funds that enable us to carry out some of our most ambitious research and innovation projects. It concerns both innovative basic research projects via funds from the European Research Council (ERC), European Innovation Council applicant support (EIC) and more solution-oriented collaborations that bring together building engineering, social and aesthetic aspects, including among others NEB.”
In an opinion in the Danish media Byrummonitor, Jakob Brandtberg Knudsen, Dean of Architecture at Det Kongelige Akademi | Royal Danish Academy (a partner in our #NewEuropeanBauhaus lighthouse project Desire an Irresistible Circular Society - funded by the European Union) writes about New European Bauhaus and the academy's work in Desire.
In #NewEuropeanBauhaus the EU turns "its attention to the role that art, design, and architecture play in the green transition". There is a new realization that a cultural, social, and resource-sustainable future requires everyone to be involved: the citizens, the cities, and the local communities. ”We should not just survive, we should create a world we want to live in, which requires more than technological advances. It requires us to embrace complexity and create beautiful, meaningful, and substantial frameworks for human development. Otherwise, it can all be indifferent.”
In Desire the academy uses the establishment of a new architecture education in the Danish town, Kalundborg as a kickstarter for the new Bauhaus view. "What does it mean when a well-established institution like the Det Kongelige Akademi suddenly has to reinvent itself, while citizens and the city are involved? What does it mean for the town, and its citizens, and what can the Det Kongelige Akademi and its education and research learn from the very active business climate in the city? How can education, research, city, and business create a symbiosis that can curiously learn from each other?"
