Sign-up to the webinar 'Productive uses of renewable energy in Africa – driving electrification through economic growth' on 27 June, arranged by RePower funded by the European Commission, to explore the transformative opportunities and challenges of leveraging productive uses of renewable energy in rural communities in #Africa. 📅 Date: 27 June 🕚 Time: 15:00 CEST // 16:00 EEST 💻 Read more & register: https://lnkd.in/daDJGijU Tina Möller, Programme Manager at Nefco - the Nordic Green Bank will present the Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa programme and our PUE activities. Other speakers from The World Bank, Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Africa GreenTec. Rural electrification efforts are often constrained by limited electricity usage, which challenges the economic viability of microgrid projects. Low electricity consumption also curtails economic productivity and living standards, as essential tasks in farming and other sectors continue to be performed manually. This vicious cycle keeps communities impoverished and electrification rates low. Tomorrow I will be pleased to present, on behalf of the Mediterranean Dialogue on Sustainable Energy (MEDSEC: The Climate Dialogue), the #TeraMED initiative aiming at advancing a target of 1 TERAWATT RES capacity installed by 2030 in the wider Mediterranean region, contributing to the global target of tripling renewable energy capacity launched at COP28. The initiative has already achieved the endorsement, during our event at the #NYCW, of International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and Global Renewables Alliance. 🎯This target is very reachable if the Mediterranean countries will cooperate to build a shared vision for a developing, resilient, sustainable, and peaceful region. On that regard, MEDSEC will work to promote a climate diplomacy 🤝🏽 to accelerate an inclusive energy transition of the MED as a key catalyst for its future security, stability, and sustainable prosperity. 🔈Very important, we will announce together with our MEDSEC partners the launch of the TeraMED Campaign, an open letter that is representing a call to action for the Mediterranean governments to enable the 1TW target and with it the socio-economic development of the region. This open letter will collect support towards COP29. Stay tuned and be ready to provide also your support on https://lnkd.in/dV8JGbvU

The commencement of groundbreaking projects in the Jarjoub regions of the North Coast and Ras Shqair in the Red Sea has attracted foreign direct investments exceeding 31 billion euros! A monumental contract has been signed with a consortium comprising the French company EDF Renewable and the Egyptian-Emirati company Zero Waste. This consortium will invest 2 billion euros in the first phase to produce green hydrogen and green ammonia. The entire project will see a minimum total investment of 7 billion euros across three phases. Remarkably, there is no obligation on the Egyptian state to provide infrastructure or bear any financial burden for this project. In addition, a partnership with the Belgian company "Demi Hyperport Energy NV" has been established for a project in the Jarjoub area. Spanning 6 square kilometers, this factory land will produce green hydrogen and its derivatives and green ammonia. The first phase alone sees an investment of 3 billion euros, with the entire project totaling 24 billion euros for all three phases, fully funded by the company. These collaborations underscore a commitment to sustainable energy and innovation, marking a significant milestone. Congratulations to everyone involved! It makes most sense to produce green hydrogen where the conditions for solar & wind are best, and where the hydrogen can be used locally to industrialise (or decarbonise existing industries). That's why I like Dominic's ambitious project which is actually a cluster of projects as it encompasses infrastructure, municipal, tourist, industry & real estate development. And if someone has what it takes to turn this brave venture from plans to reality, it's Dominic & his team 👇
