Chile's National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Servicio Nacional de Pesca y Acuicultura - Sernapesca) related the #massive #salmonid #mortality to the presence of #harmful #algae #bloom but ruled out #red #tide and dissociated it from the #ElNiño phenomenon. 🇨🇱🌊🌿❗🐟 📌 Up to 13 salmon farms in the #Reloncavi estuary area, #LosLagos region, reported the activation of the #contingency #plan for #HABs. 📌Later, just 7 of them also activated their contingency plan for massive mortality associated with the presence of #microalgae. 📌 Finally, after analyzing all the information, #Sernapesca determined that only 2 of them were actually in this condition. 🗣️ "Up to the minute, the situation is being addressed normally through the capabilities available to the holders of the affected facilities to deal with this type of event," Cristian Hudson, Regional Director of Sernapesca Los Lagos. 🗣️ "The available information does not allow linking this bloom with the El Niño event that is currently affecting the north of our country," Dr. Leonardo Guzmán Méndez, Chilean Fisheries Development Institute (IFOP). 🟣🔵 Read full details here 👉 https://lnkd.in/dKcEnP_T
