From The Black Cod Company to Farm in a Box - new #interview with AquaFounders Capital's Ohad Maiman and Thue Holm! 🎤 🚀💡🐟 As the duo confirm #Zeeland in the #Netherlands as the site for their latest #fishfarming venture, WeAreAquaculture caught up with the land-based #aquaculture trailblazers to find out more about the project, as well as an update on their #RAS technology business, Farm in a Box, which has recently announced new collaborations with Denmark’s GreenScale Hub and ReelData AI. 💬 “We still have the conviction that the best use of RAS or land-based technology is to aim for this trifecta of high value species that works well in RAS, deployed in an area where it's not otherwise available. #BlackCod is one of the highest value species," says Ohad Maiman. 💬 “If you want to make our #foodsystems more CO2 neutral, it makes sense to farm more fish. And if you want to integrate that into the food production systems around the world, it just has to be land-based,” says Thue Holm. ✨👀 Find out more in the full #interview here 👉 https://lnkd.in/dTDutfQd

Salmon Scotland claimed #investment in #fish #health and #welfare has contributed to getting a 98% #survival #rate in #Scottish #farmed #salmon in September 2024, the best since 2020. 🏴🌊🐟📈 🎯 Throughout 2024, survival rates for Scottish salmon have remained consistently high, reaching 99.03% in June. 🌊🐟💷 Since 2018, GBP 975 million (EUR 1.162 million / USD 1.265 million) has been invested in measures including freshwater treatment vessels, investment in research, or reducing the time farm-raised salmon spend at sea, as well as staff training and improved monitoring systems to help farmers respond to natural challenges. 🗣️ "While no farmer wants to lose any animal, the care our farmers provide means that survival rates for farm-raised salmon – which spend up to 18 months in the sea – are dramatically higher than their wild cousins," Tavish Scott, Salmon Scotland's #CEO. 🟣🔵 Read full details here 👉 https://lnkd.in/dBMxTPub *Photo: Bakkafrost Scotland.

Chile's Superintendency of the Environment (Superintendencia del Medio Ambiente - SMA) carried out the third #mass #warning of the year to salmon farming center holders to promote the industry's compliance with #environmental #regulations and avoid #overproduction. 🇨🇱🌊🐟⚠️ 📌 The warning has been forwarded to a total of 267 #salmon #farms in the southern zone of #Chile: 104 in #LosLagos, 123 in #Aysén, and 40 in #Magallanes. 🗣️ "These warnings allow holders to be alerted as to how their level of production is going according to what is permitted in their environmental permit so that they can adjust to it," Marie Claude Plumer Bodin, Chilean Superintendent of the Environment. 🐟❗The #SMA recalled this is a report of estimated production and the environmental control of the #aquaculture sector's production is carried out through the information provided by Chile's National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Servicio Nacional de Pesca y Acuicultura - Sernapesca at the end of each year. 🟣🔵 Read full details here 👉 https://lnkd.in/da4sqkiZ *Photo: Sernapesca.

Måsøval AS downs its 2024 #harvest #estimate for the second time this year and issues a #Q3 #profit #warning for shareholders and potential investors. 🇳🇴🌊🐟⬇️❗ 📌 The 26,500-27,500 tonnes of gutted weight equivalents (GWE) forecast in August will now be 24,700-25,700 tonnes GWE. 📌 According to a preliminary assessment of the unaudited consolidated accounts, its operating #EBIT in the third quarter was NOK -62 million (EUR -5.2 million / USD -5.6 million). 📢 "The operational result is weaker than expected by the market and preliminary estimates by analysts covering the share. Although Måsøval does not provide financial guiding apart from harvest volume and a general indication of cost development, the company finds a notification is required as it is deemed as inside information in the view of the company and a profit warning is warranted to ensure investors are well informed," read Måsøval' statement to the stock exchange. 🟣🔵 Read full details here 👉 https://lnkd.in/dKTDgZah *Photo: Daniel Skog / Måsøval.

As #climatechange impacts #ocean ecosystems, scientists call for research investment to secure Europe's expanding #seaweedfarming industry. 🌿🌊 🔬 Research by the Scottish Association For Marine Science (SAMS) highlights that cold-water #seaweed species, which currently thrive in the northern #Atlantic, may start to disappear by 2070 due to #oceanwarming, increased storm frequency, and unpredictable salinity levels caused by heightened rainfall - meaning new farming techniques are needed. 💬 “In Europe, we are well behind Asia in terms of developing these methods and the #seaweedindustry as a whole is a long way behind the #research and development in the #agriculture industry, for example. It will take a big effort, but I think with sufficient resources, we can safeguard a European #seaweedindustry for the longer term," said lead researcher Reina Veenhof. ✨ Read more on this story here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dVFmnbtm

European #shellfish producers call for a common #aquaculture policy in the European Union, and more coastal space for low-trophic farming.🌊🦪🇪🇺 💡 The #European #Mollusc Producers Association (EMPA) has launched a #Manifesto for the #SustainableDevelopment of the European Shellfish Sector. 🦪 Representing shellfish #farmers from Spain, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Italy and Ireland, the manifesto, presented by EMPA president Addy Risseeuw in Brussels last week, makes the following 5 key recommendations: 1. Acknowledge the role of shellfish farming in reinforcing Europe’s #food sustainability, safety, sovereignty and #nutrition. 2. Triple the area allocated to shellfish farming to increase the production and the associated environmental and economic benefits. 3. Leverage the development of shellfish farming to accelerate #waterquality improvement. 4. Recognise the #EcosystemServices provided by shellfish farming activities in support of the EU’s environmental and #climate goals. 5. #Iceland's Environmental and Natural Resources Board of Appeal has fully revoked the #license for a 10,000-tonne #salmon site for Arnarlax and partially annulled another to 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐒𝐞𝐚 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦, for 8,000 tons of #rainbowtrout and salmon, both in #Ísafjarðardjúp. 🇮🇸🐟🌊⚠️ 📌 The operating licenses had been issued by the 𝐈𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐜 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐕𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 (#MAST). 🗣️ "This is unfortunate but will not affect our longterm guideance for production of fertile salmon on current licenses. We are now going over the ruling and will work with MAST on the next steps," said Arnarlax CEO, Bjørn Hembre. 📌 In addition, the Board of Appeal rejected the request to overrule MAST's decision to renew a license to Arctic Sea Farm - a subsidiary of Arctic Fish - for a maximum biomass of 7,800 tons of sterile salmon in the Patreks- and Tálkna Fjords. 🟣🔵 Read full details here 👉 https://lnkd.in/d4K6UTJw *Photo: Arnarlax.
