Aligned with the standard VET curricula of partner countries, the Competence Framework aims to seamlessly integrate into VET school practices. It supports schools and teachers in up-skilling VET students with the competences demanded by Industry 4.0, facilitating their transition from school to work and addressing youth unemployment and workforce shortages in the Industry 4.0 sector. Recognized by the European Union as crucial technologies for tomorrow's economy, Industry 4.0 technologies lack appropriate and multidisciplinary curricula providing the necessary digital skills. The Competence Framework addresses this gap, promoting innovation and digital transformation. This week, A&M Private Equity Performance Improvement (PEPI) Education and Education Technology (EdTech) Services is attending the annual ASU+GSV Summit in San Diego – the leading conference for education providers, EdTech companies, investors, professional services firms, and other industry stakeholders. Many discussions over the first two days at the Summit have centered on #ArtificialIntelligence (AI), and there is no doubt that AI plays a major role in the future of education and EdTech. That said, several panelists have cautioned that AI should be thought of as a key part of the sector’s future, rather than the entire future. These statements may in part reflect ongoing uncertainty about the ultimate effects of AI – but they also highlight the continuing importance of human judgment in areas such as content creation, assessments, product development and mass customization. AI is likely to be a significant topic in education for a long time to come, and investors in the sector should consider both its potential and its limitations when evaluating specific opportunities. The transnational consortium of the KA220 Erasmus+ Digital HEIghts project convened online in January 2024 for another virtual partner meeting. 👏 A main topic on the agenda included the dissemination of the online "Digital HEIghts Learning Toolkit for Sustainable Assessment through Digital Technologies" — which is now translated into German, Portuguese, Greek and Italian — across partner regions. The Digital HEIghts Learning Toolkit consists of digital assessment strategies and incorporates the principles of the DigCompEdu framework into realistic learning scenarios. The #Toolkit makes use of digital evaluation tools for tracking the learning process and gathering data on students' progress. To create deep educational change through technology, we need more than just adding tech to the classroom. It requires a coordinated effort to integrate technology in a pedagogically sound way. In EffecTive, we aim to implement interventions where teachers' strategies to integrate tech have a profound impact on student learning. 💡📚 We utilize the ICAP framework, which distinguishes four types of learning activities based on students' cognitive engagement in tech-enhanced activities: 🔄 **Interactive**: Engages students in collaborative processes, requiring them to communicate, share, and integrate diverse perspectives to accomplish a shared goal. 🧠 **Constructive**: Encourages students to engage in generative cognitive processes, creating artifacts by synthesizing prior knowledge and using digital tools to construct new understanding (e.g., mind maps or schemas). 🖱️ **Active**: Prompts students to actively engage with a digital tool, allowing for manipulation and exploration of information to deepen comprehension. 📺 **Passive**: Involves receptive cognitive processes, where students passively receive and process information, such as watching a video or listening to a lecture, without direct interaction with digital tools. In EffecTive, we use the ICAP framework to understand the impact of technology on learning based on how specific activities supported by technology are implemented in lessons. For example, a simple Kahoot quiz doesn't have to be limited to quick assessments. It can be thoughtfully designed to enhance and deepen students' understanding of the material. With the rapid advancement of technology, the roles and competences of teachers have also changed. In order to prepare students as future-ready and digitally literate individuals, it has become necessary for teachers to first develop their digital competence. 🌍✨ In this context, the European Framework for the Digital Competence of Educators (DigCompEdu) details 22 specific digital competences for educators, organised in six areas: 🔹 Area 1. Professional Engagement: Using digital technologies for communication, collaboration, and professional development. 🔹 Area 2. Digital Resources: Sourcing, creating, and sharing digital resources. 🔹 Area 3. Teaching and Learning: Managing and orchestrating the use of digital technologies in teaching and learning. 🔹 Area 4. Assessment: Using digital technologies and strategies to enhance assessment. 🔹 Area 5. Empowering Learners: Using digital technologies to enhance inclusion, personalization, and learners’ active engagement. 🔹 Area 6. Facilitating Learners’ Digital Competence: Enabling learners to creatively and responsibly use digital technologies for information, communication, content creation, well-being, and problem-solving.
