I get to meet such remarkable people through the Circle Optics, Inc. ecosystem. Recently I got to have an impactful discussion with Ashley Chung of SBIR Advisors Inc. Developing strong relationships with DoD stakeholders is crucial. When a company builds rapport and trust with government stakeholders, it positions itself as a reliable partner for future opportunities. These relationships signal to the DoD that the company is not only capable of delivering on current projects but is also a dependable resource for future needs. Regarding best practices in relationship-building, here is a sliver of a sliver of Ashley Chung's insight: Engage Consistently: Regular interaction with DoD contacts, not just during project phases but also in-between, can help keep the company top-of-mind. Demonstrate Expertise: Sharing insights, innovations, and industry developments can position the company as a thought leader and a go-to resource. How do we nurture a culture of innovation? Culture is the sum of the practices, values, beliefs, customs, and artifacts of a community or society. As one of my mentors once said, “Culture is how people get through their day.” When we honor our corporate partners and the work they empower with the Naval Postgraduate School, we support: -The practice of engaging with industry in non-transactional relationships. -The value of collaboration across the DoD and the broader innovation ecosystem. -The belief that no one innovates alone. -The custom of recognizing those who are making a difference. -Creating new artifacts through new prototypes, processes, and concepts. By integrating maintenance and training efforts, leaders can foster authentic readiness that truly prepares units for operational demands.

“Partnership between (the Pacific Exchange Program) and NPS is hugely beneficial for I Corps and students. … I believe it is exactly what NPS wants for students by having operationally-related research, as it says in its motto, ‘Where Science Meets the Art of Warfare.’” Defense Analysis student U.S. Army Maj. Cody Chick is one of many NPS warrior-scholars participating in the Pacific Exchange Program, a unique opportunity for students to work with and learn from commands throughout the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM) area of responsibility. PEP is an innovative approach that shares valuable knowledge and builds upon critical experiences in a dynamic region of the world. For example, during the recent Cobra Gold exercise in Thailand, NPS students participating in PEP were embedded in staff sections across the Army’s I Corps, taking part in activities such as logistics, protection and combined interoperability. Such access allowed the students to not only observe strategic and tactical operations and decision-making, but also to offer recommendations and lessons learned. “The combination of participating in the PEP alongside our studies at NPS holds significant importance,” said another NPS student, Army Maj.
