We're encouraged to see this new level of federal collaboration to prevent and reduce wasted food, especially the expanded membership of U.S. Food Loss and Waste 2030 Champions. The membership is for businesses and organizations that are publicly committing to reduce wasted food in their U.S. operations by 50% by 2030. The data, technology, and infrastructure exist today to achieve this ambitious goal. https://lnkd.in/e_g_fyxG

🌱 Join the FOLOU project for a series of webinars on Food Loss! The first webinar, "Defining Food Loss in the EU Framework – Challenges and Significance," is on March 14, 2024, from 11:00 to 13:00 (GMT+1). 🔍 The EU's efforts to quantify food waste are well-known, but unharvested food is often overlooked in monitoring, leading to unreliable data. FOLOU aims to fill this gap by proposing a refined definition of food loss, distinct from 'food waste', to encompass all omitted food discards. 💬 Join us as we discuss this crucial issue, address grey areas, and seek collaborative solutions. Don't miss out, register here: https://lnkd.in/eeFqsqT2 #FoodLoss #H2020Project #FLWsisters #Webinar

Everyone, everywhere, deserves access to safe and nutritious food without compromising our planet. However, an urgent shift is needed in global food systems, and the challenges are immense. 2.4 billion people struggle for regular access to sufficient food, over a third of global GHG emissions stem from food systems, and a staggering third of all food is lost or wasted. These issues impact Earth's crucial planetary boundaries, making this a truly pressing issue. Tetra Pak collaborates with governments, partners, and the food industry to enhance food security, reduce waste, and improve livelihoods for sustainable global food systems. Our global presence and end-to-end solutions in food processing and packaging drive our commitment to "moving food forward." Did you know: There are almost 60 different date labeling terms currently being used on our food products? Studies show people are confused by these labels and often prematurely discard food due to uncertainty about the meaning of the label. This confusion causes approximately 7% (or 6.5M tons) of food to go unsold or uneaten each year. But there’s good news! The bipartisan Food Date Labeling Act of 2023 would standardize and clarify food labels, replacing the current inconsistent patchwork of date label regulations across states. As part of the Zero Food Waste Coalition, we are calling on Congress to prioritize and pass this crucial act—and put an end to senseless food waste. *Data estimated by ReFED Release: https://lnkd.in/e5qvf2-7

A US policy to reduce food loss and waste. This is interesting but about 100 years too late. There is hunger in the USA. Lots of food, water, energy, labor, and more are lost when food is wasted. Now I know what to ask next term's classes in my food security section. https://lnkd.in/eGtF8SUK.

Today we celebrate World Food Day, a day to promote both worldwide awareness and action regarding hunger. A sustainable and resilient food production system is vital to achieving a future of #ZeroHunger and global food security. We would also like to acknowledge the contributions of small-hold farmers today, as they produce about one-third of the world's food. This makes them key stakeholders in the transition toward sustainable food production, and therefore important drivers of a more food-secure future. #WorldFoodDay #sustainableagriculture #smallholdfarming
