Hard to believe that it's been two weeks since we wrapped up our first CIRAS - Iowa State University Cybersecurity Bootcamp for Federal Contractors with Derrich Phillips, Certified CMMC Assessor of Aspire Cyber. I am not a technical expert when it comes to cybersecurity. And neither are most of the businesses who need to understand what their obligations are when it comes to CMMC. But, as a former federal contracting officer for the DOD, I do have an understanding of contract clauses and regulations. This is a piece that most are missing when they talk about the implications of CMMC and its roll out. In our 4 week bootcamp, Derrich covered the basic tenets of CMMC Level 1 and FAR 52.204-21, and I shared with companies how to assess what level they may require, depending on the type of work they are doing and the access to information they may require. It was a great way to leverage our collective knowledge and our participants couldn't have been more thrilled with the opportunity to learn about the concepts and ask questions from a cyber expert. #cybersecurity #cyberhygiene #defense #defenseindustrialbase #iowa #governmentcontracts

BENS members continue to enhance public-private collaboration, this time to discuss #cybersecurity🔒 at the FBI's Domestic Security Executive Academy. BENS members Aaron Burciaga, CAP, ACE, John Zangardi, and Edward Davis recently engaged in a panel for FBI agents and private sector security officers on how to best communicate risks to leadership and secure resources for physical and digital infrastructure. This event was part of BENS' ongoing partnership with the Domestic Security Alliance Council, a public-private collaboration between the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
