Next London mayor urged to focus on promoting development The London Property Alliance has called on the next mayor of London to facilitate a “new flexible approach” to planning in central London to unlock 40.7m sq ft of workspace. The LPA, which represents real estate developers and investors in the capital, cited figures from Arup showing that a planning approach that balances heritage and sustainability with economic factors could also deliver 4.7m sq ft of new retail and 6.5m sq ft of hotel space by 2045. That could support 407,200 new jobs, according to the LPA. https://lnkd.in/ezDC_Cza

Cape Town CBD Doubles Property Developments Read this amazing article in my favour Business Day newspaper... Link Below... I'm thrilled to be a Capetonian and to witness firsthand the incredible growth happening in our beloved city. The latest report from the Cape Town Central City Improvement District (CCID) reveals something truly exciting: in 2023, property investments in Cape Town’s CBD more than doubled, reaching a staggering R7.3 billion! This surge in development reflects the resilience and dynamism of our city, even in a challenging economic climate. From the sleek, mixed-use Rubik skyscraper to the charming heritage revival of The Barracks on Bree Street, Cape Town is leading the way in urban innovation. With 30 new projects either completed or underway, including a significant portion dedicated to residential developments, it's clear that our city is evolving into an even more vibrant, inclusive, and desirable place to live and work. Cape Town’s CBD isn’t just growing; it’s thriving. With office vacancy rates at a record low of 7.5%—the best among major municipalities in South Africa—it’s clear that the demand for our city’s unique blend of culture, commerce, and creativity is only getting stronger. And as we continue to embrace smart city technologies, Cape Town is not just keeping pace with global trends but setting them. I’m proud to call this city home, and I’m even prouder of the direction we’re headed. Here’s to the future of Cape Town—alive with opportunity and brimming with potential! https://lnkd.in/dQCSXVi6

Positive news from the Pond-Deshpande Centre as they announce their partnership with RE!NSTITUTE to launch Canada's first 100-Day Challenge focused on innovation within the construction sector. This initiative aims to address labor shortages in New Brunswick's construction industry by leveraging the power of immigration and integrating new strategies for recruitment, workplace readiness, and the recognition of international qualifications. The approach of using a 100-Day Challenge to foster rapid innovation and collaboration among stakeholders from government, industry, academia, and local communities is a noteworthy development. It signals a commitment to finding practical solutions to our province's challenges that does not follow a drawn-out, behind the scenes process that results in a position paper few people read. I hope the exploration emphasizes the importance of digital tools and intelligent strategies in enhancing productivity and operational efficiency. As someone deeply interested in how digital adoption can transform industries, and improve NB's lagging productivity numbers, I see this initiative as a significant step toward not only addressing immediate labor needs but also setting a precedent for other sectors to follow. The focus on modernizing processes and ensuring a skilled, diverse workforce is aligned with the broader goals of economic growth and innovation in New Brunswick. The role of independent, unbiased organizations like the Pond-Deshpande Centre is vital in such initiatives. Their neutrality ensures that diverse groups collaborate effectively, focusing on common goals rather than partisan differences or special interests. This approach is key to unlocking innovative solutions that benefit the whole community, demonstrating the importance of unbiased facilitation in achieving sustainable progress. I encourage people to read more about this initiative in the Pond-Deshpande Centre's press release. It's an opportunity to see how collaborative efforts and smart solutions can make a tangible difference in our communities. https://lnkd.in/gsmKY7YH

The #Impact of #Misplanned #Construction on #Toronto's #Entrepreneurs and #Founders In recent years, Toronto's surge in construction and related service work has significantly impacted entrepreneurs and founders, hindering their businesses and operational efficiency. Urban Mobility and Convenience Issues The immediate and visible effect of misplanning is the reduction in available parking spaces. Construction projects occupy vast areas, drastically diminishing parking around business districts and causing inconvenience for business owners and clients. The lack of parking hampers daily commutes and deters potential customers. Moreover, prolonged construction has increased traffic congestion. Entrepreneurs and employees spend more time in traffic, leading to lost productivity and additional stress. Unpredictable travel times have disrupted scheduling and punctuality, essential for professional operations. Decline in Business Engagement Infrastructural disarray has discouraged many from coming to Toronto for business meetings and events. Entrepreneurs report a drop in face-to-face interactions vital for networking and client relationships. This shift to virtual meetings lacks the effectiveness of in-person conversations. Economic Implications Retail outlets, restaurants, and service-based industries relying on foot traffic are most affected. Reduced accessibility has led to a decline in patrons, impacting revenue and threatening small businesses' survival. Investors hesitate to consider Toronto, fearing logistical issues, potentially diverting growth opportunities to other locales. Seeking Solutions Entrepreneurs and founders in Toronto, how are you coping with these challenges? Have you adapted your operations due to traffic and parking issues? What solutions do you propose? Sharing experiences and insights can help push for better urban planning. It’s time we address these challenges and work towards making Toronto a business-friendly city. Share your stories and suggestions in the comments below!
