🌟Highlights of the week!🌟 Last weekend, Dolores was invited to the Larry Itliong Unity Park grand opening in Delano, CA. She had the opportunity to talk about her experience working with Larry Itliong during the movement's early stages. It was amazing to see people's power and being represented. Our youth member, Pricila Cenobio, had the incredible opportunity to represent DHF alongside Central Valley youth, speaking out against budget cuts to CalWorks and other essential safety net programs at the End Child Poverty in California Rally at the State Capitol. We are proud to see our youth advocating for critical issues and fighting for change in their community. We love to see people power! #¡SiSePuede! #EndChildPovertyCA #ECPCA #DHF #Youth

At #AVPN inaugural Faith and Giving Learning Circle, I discussed the “wicked problem” of violence and exploitation for hidden and vulnerable communities - and how this violence undermines all of our other social impact investments. #InternationalJusticeMission shared how multi-sectoral collaboration with like-minded partners, including government, local community and corporations, to implement an effective Protection Model is key to ending violence, increasing protection, and fueling growth and health in our nations. An important piece from Child Trends if you work with, live with, or just care about children and families. Although much of the article focuses on policy recommendations (rightly so!), there are plenty of practices we can adopt at a local, community-based level to directly support kids and families. The importance of hyper-local equity strategies, like Community Schools, can meet families where they are, focus on their strengths, empower them to advocate for systemic change, and remove barriers where possible through coordinated community supports and wrap around services.

The "bootstraps" argument is designed to blame those living in poverty for systemically-created problems. It's time we invest in projects that foster autonomy through immediate, #directcash. #Basicincome = faster access to resources & improved security. Funding basic income is the right choice, and the smart one. Let's continue this work and extend the Denver Basic Income Project. Use the link below to send an email to your Denver City Council representative and urge them to support DBIP in City and County of Denver 2024 budget amendments next week. #UBI #FundBasic #Denver #homelessness https://lnkd.in/gbvRs9eC

Spent the past few days in San Francisco🌁 for the National Alliance to End Homelessness 2024 Innovations and Solutions for Ending Unsheltered Homelessness conference. Nearly 40% of the more than 1,200 attendees were from California, but we were able to hear about unique approaches from both across the State and the nation. In this field — success looks like sharing and collaboration🫱🏾🫲🏼! And at LA Family Housing, we thrive on working in coalition because we believe “if you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” Conference Takeaways: 1️⃣Ending homelessness is possible. 2️⃣Building more housing is key. 3️⃣Elevating lived experience is necessary. 4️⃣Housing justice is racial justice. 5️⃣Budget advocacy is a must. 6️⃣And going it alone is selfish and deadly.

🌟 At United Stride, we're committed to creating a brighter, more inclusive future for all Americans. 🌟 Recent news out of Arizona highlights the challenges we face in addressing homelessness and poverty. The GOP's ban on guaranteed basic income programs is a step in the wrong direction. Instead of addressing the root causes of these issues, such as lack of access to affordable housing and economic opportunity, it further marginalizes vulnerable communities. But there's hope. United Stride believes in solutions that uplift everyone, regardless of their circumstances. We advocate for policies that promote economic justice, provide a safety net for those in need, and create pathways to prosperity for all. Together, we can work towards a future where no one is left behind. Join us in advocating for change and building a society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. 💪 #UnitedStride #EconomicJustice #EndHomelessness #FightPoverty
