Great to meet the awesome ActiveXchange APAC team and (re)connect with new & past industry leaders in person at the National Sports & Physical Activity Convention. it was a great opportunity to chat about common challenges & opportunities, and the scope for sports & leisure data-intelligence to be deployed to improve outcomes across the industry. 'Working together' was one of the common themes & key learnings from the conference, echoed in case studies from Australia and abroad. A number of use-cases helped to highlight the positive results or immediate need for organisations to consider new approaches and or collaborations for long term benefit. The better organisations can 'join the dots', (and the data!) in a cohesive way, especially in the changing landscape with economic headwinds, the better the industry can meet consumer expectations and the better the results.
A week and a bit on from the NSC in Melbourne, some of the ActiveXchange APAC team share their reflections on another stand out event... https://lnkd.in/ear-Kmre Alexandra Ash GAICD Callum Warner Alex Burrows Mike Morris Michael Clinton Richard Boyle ActiveXchange APAC 👏 National Sports & Physical Activity Convention Martin Sheppard FCIMPSA, MSAPIA Anthony Reed Tania Fountain

What a fantastic day at the International Sports Convention Manchester Summit 2024... ⚽️ Georgia Robin and Rozie Fuller headed to the Etihad Stadium yesterday for a packed day of conversations around women’s football and fan engagement. They’ve come away full of learnings that not only apply to the world of women’s football but also our work across a range of sports. Topics of discussion included: 🏃♀️ The importance of athlete-centric research in a period of growth for women’s sports. 🏟️ The huge impact that quality fan experiences - both in person and digital - have on fan loyalty 🎶 The power of connecting sport to culture - in particular music - to reach new audiences in different ways. 👀 The need to stop comparing the women’s game to men’s and look at what others have done to successfully grow their women’s sports. If you had a chat with Georgia or Rozie don’t be a stranger - keep the conversation going. 🙌 Exciting times ahead for women’s sport! 🚀 #WomenInFootball #ISCManchester #sportsmarketing

It's probably just money: Why hosts do well at the Olympics Hosts don’t always do better: They often do! But not always. Qualitatively, I see little to no bump for: Brazil, Canada, Finland, the United States (1996), and West Germany. But that means that there are bumps for the other 14/19 games. Hosting countries often start getting more medals before they host. Extra athletes probably don’t win many medals: Host nations really do have many more athletes competing. This happens because athletes from the host nation can often “auto-qualify” without needing to beat other athletes in qualifying rounds. I don’t think this is very complicated! Medal counts are not a measure of a country’s worth. Mostly, they measure (a) population, (b) economic development, and (c) how much money you’re willing to set on fire to make numbers go up on a magic billboard. https://lnkd.in/ezSwtUik
