Bridge reports indicate that off-system bridges managed by local governments in Texas are underperforming compared to on-system bridges overseen by the State Department of Transportation. In a research study funded by the Research and Technology Implementation division of the Texas Department of Transportation, we examined the design, construction, and maintenance procedures for Texas off-system bridges to compile a set of recommendations aimed at improving how local governments manage their bridges. The results were collected from survey questionnaires and interviews with subject matter experts. Ryan Smith, studying Construction and Built Environment (Architectural Technology) at Edinburgh Napier University is researching how digital technologies, particularly BIM, could be integrated into the building standards system in Scotland. The current title of the dissertation project is: “Digital Transformations in the Building Standards System – A Scottish Perspective of the Opportunities and Challenges and How This Can Be Implemented in a Small and Rural Setting” To gather the views on this topic from professionals within the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) sector, they have prepared a short online survey: https://lnkd.in/erH5PD8h

I am pleased to announce the recent publication of my research article titled "The Impacts of Poor Drainage on Road Infrastructure Performance in Hargeisa, Somaliland." The article has been published in Academia, Research gate and Zenodo Publication platforms, and I am excited to share the findings of this research with the academic and research community. This study delves into the critical issue of poor drainage and its profound impacts on road infrastructure performance in Hargeisa, Somaliland. Through a comprehensive analysis of the research sheds light on the challenges faced by the local road network and proposes potential solutions to mitigate the adverse effects of inadequate drainage. In 2013, the Dutch HWO, (the design guidance for roads in rural areas) recognized that as the design speed of a travel surface decreases, the technical traffic aspect becomes less relevant. I.e, the traffic engineer should have a much greater influence/veto power on a highway project than on a local residential street. On the latter, functions from the land use, landscape, and local wants are more relevant.

𝗙𝗥𝗜𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝗜𝗦 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗟𝗔𝗦𝗧 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘 The call for abstracts will close next Friday the 15th of March, no further extensions will be given. Presentations of 20 minutes duration may cover any aspect of pavement stabilisation consistent with the general conference theme of Designing for Reuse and Resilience under the following general topics: - Innovations and Research, including the introduction of innovations in design, materials, equipment or processes and research outcomes from laboratory investigations and trials. - Stabilisation, including application across road pavements, airfields and rail with a focus on case studies of work undertaken for Local and State Government. - Construction Excellence, showcasing leading practice in construction of stabilised pavements and quality outcomes. - Sustainability and Resilience, demonstrating safety, health, environmental, social and financial benefits of stabilisation.   Presentations may be focused on national or international perspectives and submissions highlighting best practice within Queensland and local government applications are strongly encouraged.   Abstracts must be submitted by close of business, Friday 15th March 2024 – see the below link for further details on the submission process. https://lnkd.in/eU25vbDH #conference #conference2024 #stabilisation #pavements #callforabstracts
