Around 1,453 kilo tonnes of post-consumer textiles were produced in 2022. Over half (759,000 tonnes) went to landfill or incineration at end of life – lost forever. How do we continue to produce clothing and textiles to meet our needs without the enormous environmental price tag attached? Sustainable fashion (and home textiles) is a key focus for WRAP under Textiles 2030. Find out how we're working to recapture and recycle more of this valuable material at 'end of life' as part of the circular economy of fashion: https://lnkd.in/ePwvAXam. 🎙️ Podcast Alert: Addressing Overproduction in Fashion 🎧 I'm absolutely thrilled to share my recent conversation with the lovely Amy on "Grounded in Maine Podcasts". In this episode, we delve deep into overproduction and try to find solutions to limit fashion’s carbon footprint. 👗 Why This Conversation Matters: As someone deeply embedded in the fashion world, I've seen the significant environmental impact of our industry, particularly in Fast Fashion. This podcast was a chance to share my insights and advocate for key changes. We discussed how the fashion business can evolve in response to global warming, going beyond traditional views of sustainability as a costly obligation rather than an investment in the future. 🌍 Exploring Overproduction: At the core of today's fashion industry is the issue of overproduction. Brands, big and small, are producing countless styles and colour-ways every season. This not only saturates the market but also leads to an enormous amount of waste. The first, and perhaps the fastest step towards sustainability, is for brands to look at the number of styles and colour ways in their collections. It's about asking, "Do we need these many styles? Can we reduce the number of colour-ways?" By simply cutting down on the sheer number of styles and SKU’s, brands can make a significant step towards reducing their environmental footprint. This approach not only aligns with environmental goals but also creates a more focused, quality-driven brand identity that consumers wi;; appreciate and trust. 💡 What Listeners Can Expect: This episode takes a deep dive into how sustainable practices can reshape the fashion industry. It's a call to action for conscious decision-making in both personal fashion choices and industry practices. 🎙️ Listen to the Full Conversation: Join us as we explore strategies and insights for a more responsible fashion future. Your support and engagement in this topic are crucial for making a real difference. 🔗 Link to the podcast: https://lnkd.in/eRJ9cY-B #GroundedInMainePodcast #sustainablefashion #environmentalimpact #fashionindustry #podcast #sustainability #fastfashion #missloveterra
