Transocean Deepwater Asgard has been awarded a 365 Day contract extension with Operator Hess Corporation the US based O&G Company. The multi million dollar extension for continued work in the Gulf of Mexico GOM The extension is expected to begin in June 2024 as part of its continued current campaign with the oil Giant. While the total contract value is approximately $195 million, this includes a $10.9 million lump sum payment, which is not included in the estimated backlog of around $184 million. The 2014-built Deepwater Asgard ultra-deepwater dual-activity drillship a DSME 12000 Spec unit. According to Transocean’s fleet status report from February 2024, the drillship has been on a day rate of $440,000 since April 2023. The rig’s previous day rate was $395,000. The healthy day rates are a continuation of the current industries healthy position as the 500K/Day looks to be an achievable and sustainable benchmark for the high end units. #drilling #drillship #oilandgas #drillersshack

6moI saw somewhere else about day rates possibly reaching $500k. If the demand is there I can see why it would reach that soon, but I thought we were currently in a trough for production...?
