Absolutely chuffed to share my recent visit to The Diamorph Group, whose remarkable journey from university research roots to industry leadership spans over 100 years of #materials innovation. Touring their state-of-the-art test laboratories was brilliant, particularly their self-lubricating bearings in action. These innovative bearings, operating in extreme temperatures from -150°C to +300°C with exceptional #seawater corrosion resistance, exemplify how advanced materials can revolutionise #maritime operations. Their comprehensive approach to materials science, from composite solutions to high-temperature applications up to 1,200°C, presents exciting possibilities for maritime applications. Our in-depth discussions about #IMO #GHG emission standards and #MARPOL requirements highlighted how their #innovative solutions can enhance #vessel #efficiency and #environmental performance. This invaluable experience will directly enhance my teaching at Fleetwood Nautical Campus, Blackpool and The Fylde College. Our #students - the future leaders of the maritime industry - will benefit immensely from understanding how advanced materials and engineering solutions are shaping #sustainable shipping practices. Brilliant prospects lie ahead as we collaborate to bring innovative products to the UK Maritime sector. This partnership not only advances industry standards but also provides our students with unparalleled insights into the future of maritime #technology and sustainability. To the next generation of pioneers at Fleetwood: the maritime sector's transformation offers unprecedented opportunities for those ready to champion sustainable solutions in UK waters and beyond. Dead chuffed to contribute to the UK's maritime innovation journey and inspire the next generation of maritime #professionals! 🚢🇬🇧📚 #British #Innovation #MaterialScience #GreenShipping #IMO2050 #MaritimeTechnology #MARPOL #UKMaritime #NetZeroShipping #MaritimeEducation #SustainableShipping #MarineEngineering #MaritimeFuture #FleetwoodNauticalcampus #MaritimeTraining #ContinuousProfessionalDevelopment

After two very enriching years I completed the Master of Science in Coastal and Marine Engineering and Management (#CoMEM+), focused on ports and waterways I attended courses at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, BUILDERS École d'ingénieurs and had the opportunity to partner with Artelia to write my thesis in Green and Smart Ports. A life-changing experience from both, the academic and non-academic point of view. Looking forward to applying my knowledges and continue learning in the field of maritime and ports engineering, which I am passionate about!

Hello, University of Michigan! 👋 We are pleased to announce our partnership with the University of Michigan to offer a multidisciplinary project opportunity to students in 2025. Recently, Gabriele Librandi, Fincantieri Marine Group's University & Research Institute Manager, visited the Ann Arbor campus to introduce the program. For one year, students will work as a team to analyze the effects of the bulbous bow shape on fuel efficiency and design a reconfigurable bow that reduces drag under variable speeds and sea conditions. Throughout their work, they will receive mentorship from Fincantieri subject matter experts, including Librandi himself, as well as Ross Kanzleiter, Chief Operating Officer of Fincantieri Marinette Marine, and Francesco G., Deputy Chief Operating Officer of Fincantieri Marine Group. Librandi emphasized the importance of this initiative, saying, “I think that young students are thirsty for knowledge, they look for challenges, and they love being busy. With these programs we encourage students to get out of their comfort zones! We encourage them to try, fail, try again and feel accomplished and satisfied about what they are doing and their hard work. Students get the unique opportunity to enter the research realm in a "soft" way thanks to our guidance and support. They get exposed to something new and they acquire the right skillset that will allow them to succeed in a very competitive environment like the shipbuilding industry.” One more initiative to bring the future generation of shipbuilders on board! With the recent announcement of the new British Tunnelling Society Young Members' (BTSYM) committee, we are delighted that Avantika Raj and Solomon Ekperuoh both have been named as chairs for sub groups. Avantika will lead the Social Media and Communications, whilst Solomon is responsible for the Youth Outreach and Education - we wish them well in their roles! The aim of the BTSYM is to provide the same services as the British Tunnelling Society (lectures, workshops, site visits, socials) but with a special focus on young engineers. The BTSYM tailors lectures and workshops to allow engineers to gain a broader understanding of the industry outside of their immediate work experiences, and also provides a platform for young engineers to present their work and learning either through evening lectures or via the BTSYM conference. The socials are a platform for young engineers from different companies to network and also catch up with friends. This year the BTSYM will aim to improve its connections with peer societies (such as the ITAym, BGA-ECG, IOM3) and also extend geographically in the Midlands and North to create a wider active community. The organisation is also working on engaging further with universities through its university representatives to promote a career in tunnelling. #tunnelling #btsym #engineeringcareers #innovation

As the year comes to a close, I want to highlight some key moments that have significantly shaped my civil engineering journey in 2024: 1️⃣ Volunteering at 2024 ASCE Field Day – Olympics Edition: I started the year by volunteering and co-leading a unique twist on the classic Cornhole game. It was inspiring to witness the competitive spirit of participants fiercely battling for the trophy! 2️⃣ Becoming a proud member of ASCE at Florida International University (ASCE FIU): This induction was a proud milestone, connecting me with a community of like-minded individuals dedicated to advancing civil engineering. 3️⃣ Participating in the ASCE Southeast Student Symposium 2024: This was a transformative experience. As part of the Sustainable Solutions Competition, my team and I worked on revitalizing the waterfront of a fictional industrial-era city. We implemented nature-based solutions to address flooding, mitigated contamination from manufacturing activities, and developed a stormwater management plan to ensure public safety. It was a rewarding opportunity to apply academic knowledge to real-world challenges. 4️⃣ Joining the Academy of Leaders (AOL): This semester-long program was truly enriching. I discovered my leadership style, learned how to adapt in different group dynamics, and participated in activities that enhanced my skills in communication, collaboration, and emotional intelligence. 5️⃣ Competing in Boeing Week at FIU: This was one of the quickest competitions I’ve ever participated in! In a randomly assigned group, we were tasked with designing a commercial airplane concept for the next Boeing 797. Through this activity, we explored some of the real-world challenges faced by Boeing engineers when designing a new aircraft. It was a fast-paced and exciting experience that broadened my perspective. 6️⃣ Touring FIU’s Wall of Wind during my Hurricane Engineering course: Exploring this cutting-edge facility with my peers was unforgettable. It deepened my understanding of hurricane-resistant engineering. Fun Fact: This was my first time wearing a hard hat—a small milestone that made the day even more special! I’m incredibly blessed for these opportunities and the growth they’ve brought me, both personally and professionally. Here’s to more learning, challenges, and impactful experiences in the year ahead! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! #CivilEngineering #StudentLife #ASCE #ASCEFIU #LeadershipDevelopment #Sustainability #FIU #STEM #EngineeringJourney
