This is me and Olivia, one of our first hires at Paraform. We did a paid work trial with 5 different people before hiring her. Photo was from our offsite in Carmel at Peterson Conway's place - we're not like this every day :) For our work trials, we always get our candidates to do a customer onboarding call (not a mock, but with a real customer). What I never told Olivia was that her call was by far the worst out of the 5 people we work trialed - so why did we end up hiring her? Short answer: because we saw that she could be by far the best the quickest and continue on that trajectory. We were optimizing for slope over y-intercept. As an early-stage startup, things are changing so fast that attitude, aptitude, culture-fit, and alignment on vision are by far more important than any other conventional heuristics. Since Feburary 2024, we've 10x'd revenue and our recruiter marketplace went from making 1 hire/month to 1 hire/day. Last 2 months we grew 75% MoM. I almost removed myself from my business 👌 This is why it matters: To grow Findymail , I need to work ON the business and not IN the business. I'm at a stage now where I need to take a step-back to have a clear picture of the strategic moves we need to do. When I started entering 5 figures per month, the 1st thing I did was to hire an assistant to handle time consuming tasks and helping me on customer support. Ever since, I pretty much hired someone new every 2 to 3 months. I started as a solo founder, we're now 7 (soon 8? we're hiring! 👀) in the team. Removing myself from the business also helps me raise the valuation of my company. People don't buy businesses that live without the founder. So I'm also creating value for my future self here. ---- Question: what steps are you taking to work ON the business and not IN the business.
